What can I do to thicken up my lawn? West houston area with Bermuda grass. Right now obviously it's dormant but very patchy and thin.

With full sun add water and nitrogen. That's all bermuda needs.

Don't apply until spring green up begins. The grass will not utilize it until spring.

Check out Randy Lemmon's fertilization schedule for Southern lawns. I don't recall the specifics off hand, but he recommends a high nitrogen fertilizer in late Feb/early March for a quick green up and then a slow release in late March/early April.

check for fungal diseases such as brown patch, gray leaf spot, etc prior to applying a high nitrogen fert because the fert will set it off like wild fire
