Best base / foundation to build shed on?

Finally purchased a 8x7 lifetime products vinyl shed, but now comes the fun of construction.

Obviously I need a level base, it comes with its own base/floor but I don't want to put that straight on the ground, thought about using the decking piers to raise it but might be hard to keep it level. Plus I don't want rodents living under it.

My other idea was to construct a small frame, kill grass off, then fill with crushed rock, figure this will help water drain better.

Open to suggestions tho, do what say you all?

Concrete foundation?

Leveling the piers wouldn't be a big deal with shims, but I don't have a solution for the rodents.

I plan on using DG with some cement mixed in when I build mine.

I'm trying for the least Mount of moisture under it as possible so that's we're I feel the crushed rock would be good

our shed is wood and built on skids(three I think) and the builder requested a solid base of crushed rock, he said moisture barrier/fence grid was up to us

the thing arrived on a large tow truck whose platform moved in all directions. as the shed was moved onto the rocks he placed shingles grit side up where the skids were to be resting.

That set up was done in '99 or 2000, survived a tornado less than .5miles from here and hasn't moved a bit!

this is really overkill but since it is a small shed put it on an 8" concrete pad. minimum 2" in the dirt and the rest above grade. you just want to make sure that the top of slab is at least 4" above grade. i would also use rebar in lieu of wire mesh for your reinforcement.

8 inches? holy moly that's a heck of a foundation!

actually, the 8" isnt a terrible idea. you wont kill yourself with the 2" scrape, it'll be high enough to get out of the weeds, no crawl space, the extra concrete wont be too much more cost, and the mass/rebar will help against settlement.

I'd bet our house doesn't have that good a foundation!

Yea the slab is a little more than I want/will spend, I've decided to go with the decomposed crushed granite, going to order a yard for delivery Saturday morning...

1 yard might be little on the low side.

You'll need 1.5 yards to prepare a bed 6" deep at 9'x8' which will give you 6" apron around the based of the building.

After asking around, I had a Tough Shed installed on a 6" bed of decomposed granite and it has worked beautifully. Also, ideally you would tamp down the granite and allow it to "dry" a little to firm up before you started construction. It should be fine after baking in the Texas sun for several days.

He said an 8" pad. While overkill its not like he was suggesting grade beams.
