Ok, so we are in the end of May, beginning of June and it says use a pre-emergent herbicide, but 2-in-1 are best for this time of year.

Questions:

1. Does the 2-in-1 mean that it is a pre-emergent AND a fertilizer? Which would mean the next thing on the schedule (June/July 3-1-2 fertilizer)is already taken care of?

2. The products he suggests as 2-in-1 control are Barricade, Demension-based, or Pendimethlin. Where should I find these products? Are these brands or the active ingredient? Anyone have any suggestions for a brand I can get at Home-Depot or I am close to the Southwest Fertilizer store he talks about on his site.

Sorry, Im new at this and my yard is ugly. Thanks.

ACE usually carries items Randy recommends, I think Home Depot sells Scotts.

I think by 2-1 he is talking about grassy and broad-leaf emergent.

Yes, fert and preemergent. Get the Dimension if you can.

It is fert and preemergent.

I can't be the only one that first read the thread title as "fart" schedule

Not this.

Name a preemergent that is singular in it's control.
I know of one that is broadleaves only, and it is not on his schedule.

My point is that ALL of those preemergents control both, and you satisfy that and fertility at the same time. 2 for 1.

Gallery/Portrait (isoxaben) does not provide grass control according to the label at standard label rates.

Ok. Well I'm confused if you guys are confused. Just tell me what a name of whatever it is I need to put on my lawn right now, and obviously, where to get it.

Thanks.

Put down the barricade preemergent (this is a 2 in 1 preemergent) and a 3-1-2 fertilizer like nitro phos superturf. These are 2 separate items and ace hardware will have these. Not sure if lowes and home depot carry these.

The barricade is in a yellow bag and it's alot smaller than the fertilizer bag which is silver. The barricade runs about $16 and the fert is around $28 if I remember correctly. It is ok to put both down together, the preemergent is a smaller bag so make sure you turn down the spreader setting while putting it out.

Hope that clears it up. Oh and water lightly after you put both down.

Regarding the 2 in 1. Lemmon says some preemergents covers grassy weeds and some cover broadleaf weeds so you would need to get 2 preemergents. Instead you can skip this and just get the barricade because it covers both, and it's worked magic on my lawn in the past year.

"water lightly"

I've always put down my fertilizer or per-emergent the afternoon before my sprinkler's go on for the week. So, it's getting quite a bit of water (20-45mins, depending upon the zone). Does it matter that I'm not watering "lightly"?

yes, but do 2 separate applications, do not mix the bags and do one pass.

I just meant you don't want to over water where it starts running off.

Barricade, Pendi, Dimension, Pennant, etc...

I haven't understood any of Trouts posts in this thread. Maybe I'm dumb.

If the point of the OP is "do I use a weed and feed" the answer is no. If the question is, which herbicide do I use, then the answer will likely depend on what you struggle controlling. I had to spray Image Kills Nutsedge (for the nutsedge) once those were out and in full force -> about mid-May, 2,4-D as a post-emergent -> about early May, and I used granular atrazine as a sort of pre-emergent in late February.

You'll also want to be careful with using atrazine on bermudagrass if that's what you have obviously and that sort of thing.

Barricade is most definitely a 2-in-1. As in both broadleaf and grass pre-emergent control. I just put mine out today.

Trout- when Lemmon talks about 2 for 1, he's not talking about fert and preemergent. He's talking about broadleaf and grassy.

And no all those preemergents don't cover both except the ones he lists as 2 for 1.

I think you are confusing everyone more

Ok, we're getting somewhere. Barricade now, come back June/July with a 3-1-2 like Nitro Phos?

Yep. Put barricade down soon (within the next week or so), then probably do the fertilizer the first week in july.

I've been to Troutslime's golf course. I wouldn't listen to anything he has to say about taking care of grass.

Lord knows that knowledge is proportional to budget. Good try.

Why don't you tell us what needs to be done.

Everyone else,
Didn't intend to confuse anyone. My point is that saying a preemergent is "2 for 1" is redundant when he mentions using barricade, Pendi, or Dimension as these all control broadleaves and grassy weeds. I got confused on why he would even mention Gallery or Portrait if he is going to tout a "2 for 1". Sorry for the confusion.

Next week let's discuss the hypocrisy of Lemmons program.

Makes sense. I think he is just showing different active ingredient opinons. Don't want to keep using the same one year after year.

I know the HD in Frisco at the toll way carries Lesco's 3-1-2 slow release.
