Should St Augustine grass be this dormant at this time of year? It seems like mine might be. My yard seems like a combo of healthy St Augustine and dormant St Augustine underneath. Other yards in my area are all lush and green. With the drought and lack of winter, could my grass still be waiting for winter?

I have set same problem. Other st Augustine in my yard is green. I have a 15x15 dead patch. Going try to dethatch and see what happens. There are a few green areas in my brown.

Do you have larger trees over the crappy looking areas?

The more heavily shaded half of my yard is taking a lot longer to come back than the other side, but it is slowly filling in the dead spots. Drought took a toll last year I was usually wasn't around during the water restrictions times and didn't have an automated sprinkler system.

Also, check for fungus or other issues in the weakened areas. They are much more susceptible...

I don't think it's dead. It's still mostly green. It's just not all healthy. I'll probably try to find someone who can come look at it.

Ask the Agronomist (TM) says ....

Never dethatch St. Augustine! You really destroy runners. Go out and try pulling up a handful. If it comes right up, it is dead. Have you fertilized yet?

Looking at my grass this morning I noticed that it's a lighter shade of green than some of the surrounding yards and some of the blades have yellowing in the tips. Do I need an iron supplement?
