How long do you want to ignore this user?
I replaced the White Rodgers 1F56-306 thermostat that came with the house

with a Filtrete 3M-50 Wifi-enabled model. So far, it's been great. I have not setup the Wifi yet, but the touchscreen setup is really cool. I also need to establish the weekday temperature programs.

Does anybody else have one of these? It was a little pricey (around $100) but it had good reviews online and with my erratic schedule, it would be nice to adjust the thermostat remotely.

sts - it was my first thermostat install and it was fairly easy. I had 5 wires coming out of my wall and I wasn't sure which wiring diagram to use, so I called their customer service phone number and got an answer in under 5 min.

Probably the "biggest" thing to figure out was where to put the 5th wire because it was not actually installed in the White Rodgers model. I believe it is a C wire, for power. I guess I'll find out when I go to setup the Wifi.

cool. our thermostats aren't old models like yours, so maybe the wiring is more plug and play. but wiring anything always makes me nervous

Shut off the power to the A/C first, even though those wires don't carry a huge load of electricity. The 3M-50 comes with labels for your existing wires (G, R, C, etc.) so be sure to label each wire as you pull it from your existing thermostat. Other than that, just follow the instructions. It should be take 15-20 min. to re-wire and mount on the wall.

Replacing a thermostat is an EASY job - no one should ever pay someone to do it. The best tip I can give, is that after you remove your old unit from the wires, put a clothespin on the wires - you DON'T want those falling in the wall!
