How long do you want to ignore this user?

Anyone know what these are and how to get rid of them?

Have them on several plants that were planted 2 falls ago. 4 of the 5 are doing well. 1 seems a bit stressed, but I have no idea if these are the cause.

TIA

Absolute,

Looks like an invasion of White Flies to me. FYI, check out the info on this url for further info.

They did not move at all when I sprayed them with some Neem oil I had. Nor have I seen any clouds when we water.

Absolute, it may be "azalea bark scale" according to $Billy Ray$ Valentine on the following link:

Hope this helps!

First thing I thought looking at the picture was: 'scale'

but didn't think that was a problem for crepe myrtles.

Here's another link:

We found that bark scale link as well. Guess we will try that drench method thing and see how it goes.

Mealy bugs? Good luck, I get them on some of my shrubs every year and I have not found anything to get rid of them. Worst thing is they spread and get on the brick of our house and other places.

I've got the same thing on my crape myrtle. Have you used any of the treatments suggested in this thread yet?

Probably aphids.

http://www.zlew.net/thoughts/2008/06/controling-crepe-myrtle-aphids/

I got proactive this year and at the first sign of them (on the underside of the leaves) I spent 10 minutes on each tree spraying with the "jet" setting to knock them off. Last year I let them go and ended up with a bad mold problem due to all the crap they secreted on the leaves.

Neem oil won't do anything. Aphids are much smaller. I think they are scale, possibly the new scale that has been working its way down from the north. If you are near Dallas it is almost certainly this new scale.

If you can post a better pic, I can help more, but I lean towards scales as well. Highly doubt they are aphids or whiteflies, especially if they are not flying or otherwise moving around.

Haven't tried anything yet - have to go buy some pesticide. The alcohol idea is interesting. They definitely do not move. I did not figure the neem oil would do anything but I had it out to spray on the garden and figured it would not hurt.
