Pro IMO, just get someone good. My pest control is very non-invasive...as are most pros I'm sure. Zero odor, they just spray the baseboard area and it dries in minutes (and my dog ignores it), some ant bait when needed, treat the outside/attic. Quarterly treatment is affordable (65ish a visit), and they always come out for free if I need something additional between visits. In Houston and I haven't seen a live roach in years (do get the occasional dead one). Maybe the occasional rare spider. Ants have been my biggest battle, but it's been under control lately with bait.

If you're in Houston I can give you my company's info...or there is actually an Ag on TA who has a company that gets great reviews.

I do this once every 4 months:

Mix this:
http://store.doyourownpestcontrol.com/Product/Cyonara-9-7-Insecticide-8-oz

(The above link is about a 2 year supply.)

Into 2 gallons of water in a garden sprayer from Home Depot (~$20) and good bye to bugs.

It's the same chemicals the pros use. It's a lighter concentration, so I usually use 50% more than what is on the label (as per DIY pest control forums).

I haven't seen a bug in my house (other than flying) in a looooong time. (knock on wood).

I use Technical Pest Services. Another thing I like about them is no contracts. They send a reminder card with an appt date set (which I usually change), but you have to call and confirm for them to show and they don't nag you if you don't. I skipped a few treatments and they don't seem to mind (although I usually regret trying to skip). And they're rarely late for an appt or will call if they are.

The Ag on here (MrJonMan alias) is from http://www.lonestarpest.com/ (think he gives a TexAgs discount). I probably would have used him if I weren't already established and satisfied with my current crew. People seem really happy with his company from what I've read.

Here I am, MrJonMan....thansk for the kinda words everyone

We are in Houston and service the majority of the surrounding areas (Woodlands included) and would love a chance to earn you business. We don't have contracts, we come quarterly, and do offer a 20% discount for all services to TexAger's.

If you do decide to call, make sure you mention TexAgs so we can discount your price accordingly.

Hope to hear from you soon....

I just use the 'extra strength' bug control stuff from Home Depot. Twice a year I give the exterior and interior a treatment.

We rarely see any bugs and if we do see any they are normally already dead.

I also like to do a pre-emptive wasp spraying around all the exterior over hangs and other places wasps like to nest. The chemical seems to keep them away and we rarely have any wasps around the house.

A&M Chopper, if the email was sent through the website, could you also send one directly to lonestarpest at gmail.com?

Something has been screwy with the site and no one seems to know where the emails are ending up, sometimes we get them, sometimes we don't.

I do both quarterly Pro treatment and I will put down the "extra strength" lowes pesticide in early spring and early summer. I have no bug problems and it keeps the local strays from crapping in my yard until winter.
