I live on the northwest side of Houston and am looking to get rid of a few yards of dirt from landscaping. Typical topsoil/clay/grass mix, no rocks. But I cannot find a dang place to get rid of the dirt. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Local landfills will usually take it at no (or minimal) cost.

post on craigslist or do a search on there for anyone needing any dirt...you can get them to load it if you "sell" it for FREE and you can have a beer and watch them work

Agree with Hirsch - don't take it to landfill as there's always people looking for fill dirt. Once it goes to the landfill, it can't be removed.
