My tree has webworms and the guy at Lowes said spraying dishwashing soap on the tree will get rid of them. Is this true? Any suggestions on insecticides?

I have seen that website, I was wondering if anybody here has personal suggestions and what worked for them.

I bought your standard pesticide at Home Depot. Hooked it up to the hose and sprayed the ones I could reach. Killed them immediately.

Are they on the leaves or on the bark?

For now they seem, or the webbing at least is only on the bark. I did try to break it apart and noticed a new wasp nest nearby so hopefully they will do the trick. I also plan on getting some beneficial nematodes to put in the soil around the base.

If it's only on the bark, it might be tree lice. They are beneficial to trees, if that is what it is.

My grandpa always suggested a slingshot and a pecan, or some similar projectile.

The idea was to puncture a hole in the web, which would allow wasps to get in and kill em

don't know if it works or if he just enjoyed shooting stuff.

I was told to spray a water/bleach mix and that would kill them. Never tried it, but figured I would pass it along

Don't spray bleach on any trees or plants that you care about.

The linked article is good but dated. BT is the safest but likely the highest cost. Sevin will work well and it pretty cost efficient. Malathion and acephate will work but they both stink, and the others mentioned you won't be able to find.

missed the post saying they are on the bark. If so they are bark lice as already indicated and shouldn't be treated. They will die and then a bit later the web will break down.
