So, I'm planning to do a board-on-board cedar fence around the house. So, here's the question. If I'm going to cap the fence (ie. dog ears wouldn't show) couldn't I just use 6 ft dog ear instead of straight cut. The reason I ask is that I'm finding Lowes has dog ear for about $1.25 less per board for dog ear. I'm assuming their may be a quality issue, but is there another reason dog ear would be so much cheaper?

On that note, I'm trying to figure out how much over lap for the board-on-board. Is it one inch on each side of the board?
