Everyone played well, but the course appeared to play difficult yesterday. Lady Ags in first at +1 after the first round.

Currently just starting round 2 and already off ti a better start than yesterday.

Freshman Emerie Schartz is leading lady Ags team A at -3 for the tournament and currently in sole first as an individual!

Good 11 stroke win by the ladies against a quality field! Cayetana and Vanessa turned it on the last 2 days to finish 3rd and T4 respectively.

Why is a tournament in Texas hosted by Mississippi State? Just wondering.

Same reason football games are held in pro stadiums no where close to the team's campus. Recruiting.

South Texas and North Texas are 2 of the 4 most fertile golf recruiting grounds. They hold a junior golf Ryder Cup style event every year for that reason. I believe they (and Southern California and Florida) make up about 1/3 of all US ranked junior golfers if I remember together. If you can hold your own in Houston or Dallas as a junior golfer, you can pretty much hold your own against anyone.

I believe this tournament was formerly called The Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach and put on by Finley Ewing from Dallas.
He moved it to Freestone and renamed it The Fin. His son is the golf coach at Miss State.

I played in the benefit tournament for our ladies' golf program a few weeks ago.

One of the holes was sponsored by Fin Ewing. I assume the same person who established the tournament the Aggie women played in. And Fin Ewing also was a sponsor at the Texas Golf HoF tournament in San Antonio.

Is Fin Ewing an Aggie?
