I've got a 16 yo son with special needs who likes to go golfing with me and he has outgrown the Callaway XJ set he's been using. He's on the short side (5'3") and probably always will be so a regular men's set is going to be too long, even to grow into.

Anyone have any suggestions for sets that would fit someone that size? While he likes golf, he hates going shopping or trying things on so I'm trying to just buy something that I can give him.

It doesn't have to be fancy or even new, he'll love it regardless. He really only tees off (with me helping him swing) on most holes and then drops his ball on the green to putt out so it doesn't need to be a full set either.

Another option, if he's just hitting balls with you for fun/not concerned with shaft specs, could be a women's petite set at a price and in a color you/he likes.

You can probably add 2-3 inches to your current set with extensions.
Has worked great for my jr. It has gotten us an extra 6-8months out of each re shafting

khaos - We're in the Houston area (Pearland) but I do appreciate the offer to cut down and regrip. That's what my uncle did for me to get me into golf. If nothing else works out closer, I might circle back to you.

KBo - A women's petite set would make sense - didn't think to look for that but its probably the right length. Color and shaft specs don't matter the slightest here since he doesn't have the motor planning to swing on his own.

ETX - can you drop me a link to the shaft extensions? I'm thinking he probably needs more like 4-5" longer just eyeballing it but that's a thought.

I've got a knockoff single length set that I had cut shorter. I can't recall exactly but more of wedge length. I might not have the driver though.

I'm in Pearland too. Let me check with my Dad and see what he has. He's mid 70's now and has given up golf due to his body giving out on him.
