Should your putter lay square (Aligned with the point of aim) ? Mine lays open and I have to square the face with my grip.

It could be as simple as re-gripping the putter, unless the shaft is bent.

There's a bunch of chatter online about the mallet style putters looking open at address. Some people talk about re-gripping, others talk about adjusting (bending) the shaft to fit your personal stance/lie.

I play a lot of golf and am astonished how many players put with their putter not aimed at the line. But either pull or push it (consistently) so it looks like it goes where they want.

Yes, your putter needs to be aiming at your line. It the simplest correction you can make to be a better putter. And second would be getting rid of blade putters.

My mallet putter when sitting flat on ground appears open until I grip the club and straighten/align the face at address.

Might not be as pronounced as your picture, but it is certainly open until I square it. I have a Scotty Cameron mallet that is 100% not bent

Some putters are square when soled, and some are not.

You can easily tell if you sole it and the loft seems awkward. It's pretty common to have to square the face when addressing the ball though.

That's why you see a lot of golfers/pros forward press their putters just before the stroke.

I had the Futura before this but it was stolen. Bought it new at Golfsmith in Austin sometime around 2009. This one has gone through a couple replacement grips but it is a great putter.

Quick follow up - Took the putter to my club repair person and showed it to him. His comment: "That's terrible"..said the loft was way too much and I told him I was most concerned about squaring the face…he said this will help…..the loft on the putter was almost 8, he took it to about a 3 which for some reason squared the face in the process….it is still slightly open but when I grip it the face squares up to my eye….

No clue on the how or why and if a 3 loft is suitable but headed out on Thursday for a test drive…seemed okay on the putting mat…he was concerned about breaking the club but he did a great job as far as I can tell…..

Thanks for the responses.
