The Wild Atlantic Way

First up….

Carne

Simply massive dunes, almost unbelievable, rained a few holes, very windy, big walk, guy in our group said his watch showed 18,000 steps and 87 flights of stairs! Videos don't do this place justice.

Next up was Strandhill.

Don't sleep on this one if you are nearby, go play it. I enjoyed it and it had some great holes with views and dunes. Windy again as that was the theme.

Next up was County Sligo. Very Scottish links look and feel to this one. Good course. Wettest and grayest round of the trip as it rained on about a third of the holes. Had a couple of burns on the course. Still windy.

Carne is the only course I've been to where I was walking in the fairway and could reach my arm out and touch it while walking. Crazy ups and downs. Truly feel like you're at the end of the world out there. My poor wife slipped and rolled down the fairway several yards. I about died laughing. She was not amused. Enjoy your trip.

Up next was Enniscrone. Great course and routing in the dunes, then a few in the open then back into the dunes. The dunes really framed the holes well. Sleeted on us half a hole, cold rain for another then good weather. Yes, still very windy.

Up next was Narin and Portnoo. Another really good course that was redesigned by Gil Hanse. Some spectacular seaside holes with cool rocks and an incredible beach with turquoise and blue water. Rained for a few holes and remained very windy. My caddie was also a member there and he said it was too windy for him to play lol.

Thanks for posting - between this thread and the one Aggie369 made, I have to figure out a trip over the pond at some point. Ireland looks amazing.

After Narin and Portnoo we took on 40-50 mph winds at the nine hole Cruit Island. Crazy wind but also crazy views. Here is the par 3 6th hole 140 yards over some beautiful rocky cliffs. Hit a three wood and it rolled left on the green in front of the flag to a foot. Zoom in on the last pic's green and you can see my ball.

I have a 9:00 AM tee time on July 31st at Carne. We are playing 27 holes. I guess I had better get on the stair master and get the legs in shape. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Definitely! Hopefully the wind is down for you that day. Course is unbelievable and it was in great shape. Take a caddie and if you see about an 80 year old lady with a caddie bib on ask for her. Her name is Ann and a guy on our trip said she was an awesome caddie and one of his favorites from the trip. That lady is in shape.

Last round of the trip was St. Patrick's Links in Rosapenna. Fantastic course and it's a big ballpark. Huge fairways and green runoff areas. It kinda surprised me for a Doak course and having played Pacific Dunes. This course felt bigger almost like Doak and David McKlay Kidd designed it together. Perfect conditions with no rain but it was very windy again.

One of the first days of our Ireland trip, my wife and I toured the Guinness Store House. My wife does not drink beer, but tried Guinness. She loved it. Drank with me after every round of golf I played. When we got home, she asked me to buy her some Guinness. She couldn't drink it. Said it must have spoiled. It truly is better in Ireland.

My wife likes it too after having it in Scotland. She really only drinks Ultra or Dos XX. She said it's not bitter and it looks heavy but it's not. I told her it was better in Ireland and now she really wants to go to the pubs there. Here is the Guiness I poured for myself at the Storehouse tour.

Guiness is, without question, the best breakfast beer.

Awesome. That first hole (pic) reminds me a little of the opening hole at Irish Course at Whistling Straits.
