So I went to PGA Tour Superstore and got fitted for irons. Hit the P790s the best out of all of them. I can't stomach the cost for custom irons with grips and shafts that I need- $1850 after taxes without any discounts.

P790 Irons
Dynamic Gold 120 S300 shafts
.5" long
3 degrees upright

Has anyone played the Takomo irons? My neighbor told me about them and says they are just like the P790s and only $650 for a fully custom set.

Only problem is they don't offer the Dynamic Gold Shafts, only KBS shafts. I didn't get fitted with KBS shafts, so if I'm going to order the Takomo irons I'll have to go with KBS Tour Stiff or KBS Tour Stiff tapered shafts. Dunno which direction to go and wanted to see if anyone here has played them. Also, any help for a shaft comparison/compatibility from KBS to Dynamic gold 120?

I own both…

They're both high quality irons…

However, I always seem to play better with the P790s…

It's the Indian, not the arrow…

I've been playing with the p790's since 2019. They are good irons and they definitely helped me lower my handicap. They do hit a little higher than I like, but you can shape shots with them. One thing I will say is they are hot off of the club face.

I am in the same boat as you. Looking to upgrade in the next month or so and I am going back and forth on the same clubs as well. I'm even able to get 40% off taylormade, but even with the discount the Takomo's are still $400 bucks cheaper. I wish I could hit them to compare side by side.

I priced out some 201s and 3 sf002 wedges for about $900 plus shipping.

Sub 70 and New Level are all $1050 for the same CB and 3 wedges plush shipping (pretty sure sub70 was free for normal ground)

Malty is another Dtc option that seems highly rated but they run about the same as the big brands.

Dtc seem to be matching the big brands in at least build quality but lacking in build options.

Taylormade 7 iron is 30.5 degrees
Takomo 101t is 32 degrees

Takomo is also .25 inches longer shaft length

I would hit them before buying them based off what a friend says

Check spin rates on both
You want spin up close to 6500 on a 7 iron

Everyone loves the strong lofts of the p790 cause they hit it further but need the spin high enough so the ball stays where you hit it

my son plays the Takoma's and loves them; his game has improved measurably

I play Titleist AP2's and have hit his irons and they're scary / sneaky good & buttery…very forgiving, yet much control

oh, and look good, too

he pays the 101T's…I tried to get him to buy the 201's because they're forged, but he opted for the 101T's with the KBS Tour Stiff shafts

curious if any one here has any experience with sub70 clubs? The 699's seem comparable to the TM and takomo's talked about in this thread.

I would also check out these below:

https://avodagolf.com/

I know some really high level D1 players who are using them. Also, I think Bryson uses these.
