Quick Arizona trip this weekend

Played Grayhawk (both raptor and talon) and Troon (Pinnacle)

Hated Troon....straight target golf. Nothing creative. Greens were fast though. They rolled at least at 12. My course here in Houston is up to 12 last few weeks and these were just as fast if not faster. Never seen so many ballmarks on greens though, literally hundreds on every green.

Liked Grayhawk...Talon is a bit more open and Raptor is where they play the NCAAs. Talon's greens were better for some reason.

Wow great pics and thanks for the report. Golfers not fixing their ball mark need to be hit in deez nuts.

I agree on Troon

The views, the course conditions, the service all top notch but golf-wise i was not a fan.

Last time i played troon the greens and fairways were way over watered and soggy. Tons of ball marks because it was so soft. Won't be going back to Troon

2023 was the last year the NCAA championship was played at Grayhawk not that it matters. Moved to California this year. I hope it comes back. It's one of the best college athletics events for spectators. If anyone has the chance to go do it.

Everywhere was weather delayed this morning due to temperatures below 32. My group is mostly North Dakota guys and they said F this. It's supposed to be 70 later but it was cold AF this morning. Good timing.

17 at talon. Underrated hole. I prefer talon over raptor personally
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

Raptor is for sure more difficult and more narrow

Troon Monument is the best course in Scottsdale. I wish you could have played it over the Pinnacle Course.

I am playing WeKoPa and Troon in January. Also going to play Quintero. Phoenix golf is a lot of fun.

Is it also target golf?

Troon condition wise is elite. But the course isn't worth nearly $500 to me. Plus caddie. Better options from a memorable standpoint IMO

Question.. my wife and I are planning a trip to Scottsdale. Haven't decided on an official date, but looking like the last week of January is our best bet.

Is the weather decent around that time in the area?

My answer would be no. The Monument Course is more of a traditional course. The price, as well as most of the courses in Scottsdale are pretty steep. But I have never paid $500 for any course in Arizona.

I don't know where you live or what you're used to but desert air feels cooler than the temperature. December and January are the coolest months here. This morning it was 41 and this afternoon 81. I'm no weatherman but it's usually 40s in the morning and mid to high 60s this this time of year.

Bring light, medium and heavier pullovers and maybe golf pants if you're going to play early or go out at night.

Totally off topic but I had some people that wanted to visit for July 4. They flew in late afternoon July 3. When they walked from the terminal to where i was parked in the pick up line the wife looked at me and said what's up with this weather? It was probably 112-115 and I asked her if she got on the plane without knowing where she was going.

Thanks. Same to Bond.

I live in North Houston area. Trying to get away with my wife for a few days, and was recommended Scottsdale for the golf and spa stuff.

I can play in the humid cold we get around here. I'm used to long John's under my golf pants and pullover.

I'm looking at playing We-Ko-Pa.

Can't tell from your post if you've been here before. Do it, no place like it to me which is why I moved here from Spring. Does your wife play? I live not far from We-Ko-Pa. Good choice. Play Saguaro.

Mr. Bond is a good source for Phoenix golf references.

Piling in - going with 7 friends from A&M in early May.

Playing:
5/4 Eagle Mountain
5/5 Lookout Mountain
5/6 The Phoenician

Rented a huge house and passenger van.

Any feedback? Do any of these have a replay rate or just negotiate there? I've done trips where we did a 9 hole replay as scramble (olds). Lots of fun but not worth even a 9 hole tackle rate usually.

Lookout Mountain is about 6,500 yards from the tips I think. Shouldn't be 100 degrees yet so have fun. I think the 10th was the first day of 100 this year.

Hackers getting ready at We-Ko-Pa.
