at the age of 100. I'm sure there are people here who met him at Champions.

Just saw the news. Met him one time a little over ten years ago and it was a cool experience.

He was not only a golf, but a Houston and Texas sports legend.

A legend. My told has this story from Mr. Burke from when he played in a tournament at Champions.

A member insisted he get a lesson from Jackie. At this point Jackie was 92 and had stopped giving lessons. The guy insists and finally Jackie relents. He tells the guy to follow him to the range and takes his cart. Jackie tells the guy to hit 3 balls so could see what he had. After the guy hit 3 balls, Jackie says "I'm not a miracle worker" and drives off.

I was a member out at Champions when I first moved to Houston a while back. Highlight of my golf career was at the range out there. Jackie was out and about while I was prepping for a round. I was hitting balls right before the tee time and he came rolling up, watched me hit a few balls and said "Your swing looks great, never change it, but you should probably spend some time on the putting green after what I saw out there." Casually rolled away.

Cool guy that lived a full life. Doesn't get much better than that.
