I'm playing this weekend with my buddy and looking for information on the course. Do y'all have any personal recommendations for the course or good resources for course details playing recommendations etc.

I'm trying to get in a habit of looking into courses before I show up, something that never use to dawn on me when I was younger.

Fairways are super important. It's a ball striker's course.

I like it a lot, but it's difficult. Not long by today's standards, but very demanding. Every hole is birdie-able and triple also lives on every hole. Lots of chutes off the tee with towering pines. Generally small greens. Some tough bunkers.

It was made back when Devlin-Von Hagge were making great courses. It feels a lot like Crown Colony where almost every hole is gettable, but every hole can get you just the same.

I fully expect to be on the triple side of that outlook rather than the birdie side lol

All going to be decided on if my driver decides to show up or not.

But I like playing hard pretty courses either way

Love the course. Play it anytime my HOA Manager can get me a time. It is very important to be accurate on the course. 6, 11, 12 & 13 require some serious carry over water. 11 can be worked around, but no avoiding 100+ yard carry on the rest.

Tiny greens. I don't think it's a driver on every par 4/5 type golf course depending on how long you hit it. I think it's hole 12&13(par 5 then par 3) that are probably the best 2 back to back holes I've ever played. 8 green is a huge slope so make sure you're pin high on it. 9 has probably one of the smaller greens I can remember.

There might be a handful of holes I'll hit driver. That's it. Fairways lined with pines and lots of 90* doglegs to postage stamp greens surrounded by bunkers. Accuracy is key.

Lots of long irons and fairway woods from the tee and you'd better be right with your approach. Otherwise it's all gravy.

Well the one perk is my 5w is probably my best club in the bag. Last round with my brother he asked why I don't just use that for every hole and then chip and putt

everyone here has covered it pretty good. Key to scoring well there is finding fairways and hitting the long irons well. Hole 8 and 11 always seemed to kick my ass out there.

On a side note I made my only hole in one on #17 out there.

Hole 11 can go **** itself. Just something about it doesn't please my eye. The one really good drive I've hit on that hole went in the damn water.

Edited to correct which hole is of the devil.

I definitely agree. I've only played Walden a few times and not sure if I've ever hit the fairway off the tee but definitely a cool hole.

Edit: Just did some research and its holes 11 and 12 that are the par 5 and par 3

Whelp that was a beating for sure. And being incredibly hot didn't help.

Beautiful course, my buddy and I plan to go back again in the fall when everything is well watered and cooler temps.

11,12,13 along Conroe was absolutely the nicest set of holes I've ever played.

My driver wasn't on which was disappointing but I only pulled it I believe on 4 holes so that was at least a positive but disappointing to not take advantage when I could hit it. Two different times I had to gallery ball, we watched the ball hit the ground, bounce once and when we got down there couldn't locate it and honestly at 102 unwilling to continue walking to look for it.

I got a good tour of the sand traps…they were great though. Best I've ever played on which was really nice and made the shots much more playable/enjoyable. Unfortunately I had two different approach shots get into the leading edge of a bunker and damn near unplayable, both ended up taking two shots to get out which was painful.

Greens were nice and rolled true. Most 1 putts I've probably ever had.

Want to play it? Texas Golf Association has a "FUN" event coming up in October and yes you should be a member of the TGA but you need not be to play in their events.

I need to edit mine to hole 11 (the par 5). I hate that hole. The designer must have been drunk.

This was the only course I've ever played a double dog leg…Walden had 2 of them

how are the fun events? Do they require a verified handicap to play in?

Austin - they do not require a handicap. They don't even care if you keep score. You do get on some good venues. Am playing this weekend in their Shamble event at Tapatio.
