Has anyone had success getting the waiver to get a riding golf cart at Bandon Dunes? My 87 year old grandfather is visiting and I'd love to surprise him with a round. He plays at least 2 or 3 times a week, and has shot his age or better several times, but there is no way that he'd be able to walk a full 18.

From the website, it sounds like you need a "permanent disability" which I'm not sure if old age would qualify.

Can I take a riding golf cart?

Bandon Dunes is walking-only, however, riding golf carts are available to all guests with a permanent disability that prevents them from walking their round. Such a request must be arranged with documentation prior to arrival and recommended outside of the 30-Day cancellation policy. Call (541) 347-5795 or email Pacific Dunes Head Golf Professional, Jason Poll, at jpoll@bandondunesgolf.com to inquire about eligibility.

I've emailed already, but the guy is on vacation for a couple of weeks it appears.

There are some golf carts our there. Our caddy one day was in a golf cart.

Yes. We had a guy in our group in his late 60's get one on the third day. I'll give him credit. He humped two courses on a bum knee but couldn't do the third.

They didn't allow him to drive on the fairways though. Not sure if that's a standard rule or not. Just fyi.

Sweet. Yeah, I've seen them out there quite a bit, but never in the fairways. Must be a standard rule.

Did he have to provide a medical note or anything? I think my grandad would be a little too proud to get one.

I'm pretty sure their policy is the caddie has to drive the cart, not the player. I hope to still be able to walk and play the royal blue tees some day.

No medical note. But it was obvious for him. Probably the same for your grandfather most likely. They'd probably grill a 30 year old.

As an update... finally got it approved. I wound up having to send in a picture of his Disable Parking Placard.

Really excited for him to play there.

We played Pacific Dunes yesterday and had a great time. It was foggy for the first 4 holes but lifted by about hole 6. My grandfather actually played a full 18 holes, which he hadn't done in at least 3 years. The caddy was great. He was an older guy named Dennis who had been a caddy at Bandon for 20 years but had a stroke last year. Since he can't carry bags for 18 holes any more, his new role is to be the caddy that drives the cart for guys like my grandfather.

It was an amazing experience that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Doesn't hurt that I broke 80 for the first time ever with a 77 and shot even par on the front 9.
My grandfather shot a 98 which feels even more impressive considering he's 87.
