He is slow but he isn't Cantlay slow. He make Bryson back a few years ago look like a speed player.

Don't believe I've ever played with someone that slow...but when guys are slower than they should be, I play normal etiquette for about 2 holes and then I'm walking ahead...staying well off to the side to avoid being in a flight path.

My friend and I got paired with two older guys on the campus course because they were super busy. They were complete opposite, one looked up one time and swung and the other took as long as Cantlay or longer. Really aggravating and frustrating to play with.

Regarding Sam and his pace of play, he has made a noticeable improvement since the US AM this summer. He was quite slow with a lot of waggles in that event and I thought at the time it would be an issue on tour. I was glad to see he had sped up to the point where while not a fast player he isn't painfully slow either now.

I noticed this too at the Am he was early Sergio like with 20 plus regrips per shot. Was better at the Masters.

He needs to speed it up but I like him. After all his back troubles early in his career and then seeing his best friend and caddie run over in front of him I always pull for him.

You might not want to play with me. I'm not slow, but staying well off to the side isn't going to protect you.

I watched much of his first three rounds of the Masters, and I didn't think he was all that slow.

One of the guys in my regular group is really slow. We make him ride in a cart by himself and often we are ahead of him waiting for his shot. I've told him several times he needs to speed it up.

My late father would play fast, but he would also not give up on finding a lost ball, and that's when we would lose all the time.

I'm like, "Dad, I'll buy you a case of golf balls if you'll just let it go".

Really slow golfers are the worst, because you always wind up playing at their pace of play. They never speed up. Even if you hit and go on ahead to your next shot, at some point you're still waiting for them. I've found it's not as hard to play with a slow person as to play behind one. For some reason that's a lot more irritating to me.

I think Sam was in a very awkward spot in the 3rd round. With those early bogeys, it felt like he was a 3rd wheel in the group and Rahm and Koepka were in a groove. If I were in that situation, I would kinda want to clear out of the way, and I think others probably felt that way as well. But as we saw, there were a lot of holes left and a lot to play for.

You want to grind but you're expected to know your place somehow as well.

This is dumb. Sam is slow over the ball but he doesn't take a lot of time to read greens, figure out clubs or evaluate shots.

I'm married with young kids that gets to golf 8-10 times a year. I'll take the slowest round possible.

Well, it was (a) just a joke and (b) in response to a video of Cantlay re-gripping and looking at his target about a dozen times before swinging. You know, what Sam does. Thanks for being the fun police though.

What I don't understand is why Cantlay can hit a ball in the bushes and by rule has 3 minutes to find it, but his ball ends up on the bulkhead and he can spend 5 minutes deciding if he is going to hit it.

If he was in violation of a rule, he would get called out on it. God forbid someone takes time to try and save a few hundred thousand.

The PGA tour doesn't enforce pace of play rules.
