How much would you pay per player to play a 3 day, 2 man partnership tournament?

Entry Fee Would Include:

  • Cart and Range Balls
  • 4 Flights of 16 Teams
  • $4,000 per Flight Winnings Paid to Top 8 Teams
  • Logoed Merch Item
  • Meal Each Day
  • Keg Beer Included

Not Included in Entry Fee:
  • Cash Players Pool Fund - Paid Out 50% 1st, 30% 2nd, 20% 3rd per Flight
  • Practice Round(s)
  • Non-Keg Beer and Other Beverages

Come on, now! I see those views. Don't be a lurker. Post your gut response.

$325

But it would really depend on the course (for me)

Probably $350-$400 would be a good number. Also depends on the course.

I play in a very similar partnership tourney that costs $350/person, but the course is not that great.

10% of the prize pool, $400

$350-$450 depending on course and where the tourney is located (lower price for more rural areas). Seems like 2 day tournies typically go for $200-300 per team. So with a 3 day and the perks you mentioned, I think $350-450 is reasonable depending on where it's being played.

Just my opinion, but I would lower the number of teams paid in each flight from 8 to 4.

All depends on the course and what classifies as a "good quality course". If it is a really good course I would say $1K or so.

I'll say that outside of playing in club tournaments with people I know I have zero desire to play in handicapped tournaments for money. That is never a good experience and just makes the tournament more expensive to give money to sandbaggers. I rather the money go to making it a better experience as opposed to having a larger prize pool.

I've played in a lot of these types of tournaments over the years. These thoughts always come into my mind when I'm thinking about playing:

1. How much is a normal green fee at this course? Is it comparable to what I'm being asked to pay? If not, the food, drink, and entertainment better be good enough to make up the difference.
2. Food!!! Who is catering? What is being served? I could be having the worst day on the course but if there is someone with a grill on the next tee box with jalapeño poppers or a pork chop, I am good!
3. Format? Scramble always makes the atmosphere a bit more relaxed. I also agree with 8 flights of 8 teams.

Are you expecting a lot of sponsorships and sponsored teams? Entry fee into tournaments in Lake Charles is typically high but it's because industrial segments companies buy the teams and host clients.

depends on the course. You could have all the "free" beer, food, door prizes, etc, but if the course is trash or average it better not cost significantly more than standard green fee, or guest fee.

Assume the course will be good to very good with excellent greens, but overall a step below a top-notch country club.

I would not expect many teams to be sponsored as you describe. I think most teams would be individuals opting to enter and play together.

As others mentioned, the course quality is the deal breaker. That being said, here's my knee jerk take:

If you do $450 per person, that would put your gross at $57,600 (provided max participation).

Take away the 16K for the prize money and you're left with $41,600 for the course, logo merch, kegs and meals per day (would need clarification on if it is 1 or 2 meals per day, but you're looking at either 3 or 6 meals per person, and it makes a difference if they only do one meal, and if that meal will be breakfast or lunch).

I'm not sure what a "good quality" course would charge to have it for 3 days, but I imagine that would eat up much of the 41K - plus it would make a difference if the meal packages were being provided by the course or an outside caterer, but you'd probably want different food each day.

In addition to the quality of the course, my conclusion on $450 pp is looking at how you noted the prize money, and how it will be split amongst 8 teams.

I have a general belief that when it comes to events like this, winners should walk away with not just their entry covered, but something extra - and those that are towards the lower end of the payout should have a good portion of their entry covered. So I'd say something like this:

1st - $1,000
2nd - $700
3rd - $600
4th - $500
5th - $400
6th - $350
7th - $250
8th - $200

Of course actual number of participants is a big factor.

(Standard green fee x 3) + 150…

Greens need to be rolling well, and no scramble format for any round.

Throw in a Calcutta after round 1, and it would be a winner winner chicken dinner! But I would only pay out the top 1/3 of the teams in each flight. 15 teams per flight- top 5 places,
12 teams- top 4
10 teams- top 3 per flight

1st -1800. 2000. 2400
2nd-1000. 1100. 1200
3rd-800 800. 900
4th- 600 600
5th-300

4500 per flight

Skins pool
Closest to the pin prize
Longest Drive

Raffle prizes- 2 tickets per team

Calcutta piece can be tricky depending on the host course and player participation.

A lot of players won't want to play if there is no Calcutta. If there is not an opportunity to make some money and get the adrenaline going a little in a big tourney, it may be hard to get a full field.

Of course it's different if it's a charity tournament or alumni tournament or something like that.

I've participated in but never managed a one. What's the going rate for an auctioneer to call a Calcutta?
mavsfan4ever
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm not sure about the rate, but I never care if tournaments actually have an auctioneer. As long as someone is running it efficiently and has it all organized, I don't think an actual auctioneer is needed. In fact I kinda prefer not having an auctioneer bc I can't tell who has what bid if they are going extremely fast.

You put a lot of thought into this and there is some good advice in here. However, no one I know would pay $450 for a chance to win $500. If you get third place you should at least get your money back. Pay the first four places in each flight.

Don't need an auctioneer, just a good atmosphere and a few spotters.

You're correct - I was just going on the OP's criteria that payouts would be for 8 places.
