I have never ordered/purchased a brand new set of irons. I've always bought used or inherited from my FIL when he upgraded.

Currently I'm playing SLDRs, and they're not great, but they work.

I had a couple of gift cards for the PGA Superstore so I went a couple of times and hit some clubs too see what felt good and made the ball fly.

The Titleist T200 and the TM P790s were both good. I liked the way the TM looked at address, so they win.

They only had one set make-up available, 4-PW. Guy said they can't break up a set but he could order what I wanted.

I went home and thought about it, never went back in.

Fast forward to yesterday, I'm sipping cold beverages on the back porch and found myself on the PGA Superstore website. I pull up the 790s and I see a "customize" button.

So, shipping soon is a 6-PW set of TM P790s, MCA MMT stiff graphite shaft, and golf pride MCC plus 4 grips. I am happy but the credit card is sad.

Nice. I've got the first gen p790s and still love them.

What are you gonna do for 3-5 iron? Hybrids?

Yup. I hit an old R7 rescue as my longest iron, and I have a GAP R that's my 5 iron.

I swing the P790's as well. They are great clubs.

I have an old R7 19 hybrid. It's not in my bag. It has one of those training aids that sets your wrist in the backswings screwed on it and I practice with it every now and then. It's still a great club 10-15 years later.

That said my G425 hybrids are really smooth.

I just got my p790s and played my first round with them Saturday. They are amazing.

What's the handicap spread for folks playing these clubs? I don't play enough to keep a handicap but my last 4 rounds were 85, 102, 92, 88

If you repeated those scores 4 times over so you had 20 rounds with 5 of each of those you'd be a 14 handicap if those were played on a course with a rating of 72/slope 113.

Just to ballpark it. I have no idea how indicative those scores are of your ability which handicap is trying to measure.

Pretty close to how I'm playing these days and I play the p790s. I love 'em. Great clubs.

Yep. I'm a mid 90s guy who occasionally goes triple digits. I've only been playing for close to 2 years so I know I'll continue to get better.. but I also know I'll never have to replace my irons. They have a wide handicap range.

After a long wait, I just got my new clubs last week. Stealth driver, 3 wood, hybrid. P790 irons. Milled grind wedges 54 and 58 degree.

I told my wife I was treating myself for my 30th birthday.

This is what we all think (it's what keeps us going)... 20 years later, I say the same thing just add a 0 after your 2! Good luck, and go check out the F Golf thread from time to time!

Customizing them will mean TM has to assemble them and ship them to you. This may not be updated, but when i was doing some iron shopping late last week, on tgw.com I saw a note that most manuf were running 3 weeks while Mizuno and Titleist orders running about 8

I did it with Taylormade. Luckily my buddy who was sponsored by Taylormade checked them. They were sent wrong. Had to be reconfigured and re-shipped.

I'm standard length, loft, and lie, so they just have to get the shafts and grips. If anything is wrong I can take them to the store here in Katy.

The lack of practice facilities near my office is my next concern

Don't ever attempt to commit a crime, you're not very good at covering your tracks.

I just did a driver fitting at Club Champion on May 14 and ordered a TSi3. They told me it would be 3-7 weeks. I just got my tracking number yesterday and my driver is being delivered June 1. I was already mentally preparing for the 7 (or more) week lead time, but 2.5 weeks was a very pleasant surprise.

Maybe it's just not quite as bad for woods right now. The fitter at CC said the biggest constraint right now is steel shafts, so irons and wedges are getting delayed the most.

Taylor made are great clubs. I played them before as well as Ping. Now I play Mizuno Tour 921 forged irons with UST MAMIYA RECOIL 95 GRAPHITE shafts. Excellent and pure feel when my swing is in the groove. At my age I am not as consistent as I use to be. Driver and fairway clubs are Ping 425 with regular graphite shaft. Very good also when swing is working.

Not sure if its me or Taylormade but I have the Sim2 irons and I have had issues with the heads separating the shafts. This happened before and after getting new shafts. One guy said, aww thats just the hosel coming loose and then I went to the range and had to get the guy to drive out to pick up the 7i head 50y out.

I still haven't had time to try them out. They've been sitting on the table.

Soon…
