Missed 2 greens with wedges in hand and his chipping cost him 3 strokes the last 4 holes

I bet on him 40/1. Hope he wins!

He just tripled and his now 4 shots back.

I don't understand his decision on that one - he hit his tee shot into the hazard area and got mud on the ball. Skashed it out of there to slightly up the fairway, and then was subject yo more shots with a mud ball.

I don't know why he didn't just take the drop so that he could have proceeded with a clean ball?

And that might have done him in.

Maybe all the smog clouded his thinking

I keep waiting for one of Rahm's feet to pull a Zion Williamson and blow out the sides of those Cuater golf shoes.

What a bounce for Rahm.

Kitayama just raked the sand prior to hitting his shot. Could that be considered testing the sand?

No. He gets to restore the lie he had to before the mess Champ made of it

No, he gets to restore the sand to how it was before Champ took his shot since Champs shot affecting his stance.

Boo camera guy for not getting a better shot of his wife's titays. We just got some arm.

Thanks. I knew the lie could be restored, but I wasn't sure if it was necessary for the caddie to do it, since the golfer would be interacting with the sand.

Having popped out one kid and with another on the way, that bra may need some titanium reinforcement. They may need their own zip code.

Because Champ's ball didn't cross up there, he would have been re-teeing. It's not the closest point to get you out of the hazard as your drop point… it's the last point it crossed the hazard, which was back by the tee due to the angle. His options weren't great after that tee shot.

Couldn't he have taken a penalty and dropped in the penalty area after cleaning his ball? From there he could have advanced it much closer to the green and had a clean ball.

Negative, you can't take a penalty drop inside of a "penalty area." His options were:
1. Play it, which he did

2. Go to the last spot it crossed and take 2 club lengths (he would have just re-teed instead)

3. Take the last spot it crossed and go back as far as he wanted keeping that point between him and the hole (he would have just re-teed).

4. Re-tee, hitting 3.

His only option to get a clean ball was to re-tee hitting 3.

Gotcha - overlooked the point of entry on that one. Was multitasking during the tee shot and jumped back in during the recovery.

Wait, you can't clean the ball for options 2&3 before dropping?

I believe you can, but it's just not applicable in this case since his shot didn't cross into the red stakes. So his only option would be to re-tee

Yeah, you can clean it any time you're taking a penalty drop (or a drop at all for that matter). The problem was to get a clean ball, he was basically going to have to re-tee (or just a few yards off the tee anyway). Essentially, to get a clean ball he would have had to have given up about 300 yards because of where his ball last crossed the line. Sorry for the confusion.
jonj101

Naw, its cool - the main source of the confusion is my fault because I was distracted when he hit the tee shot and I didn't have a frame of understanding of how far back he crossed into the penalty area. My original post didn't take that into consideration.

Thank y'all for the clarification.
