How do I get an official usga handicap? I downloaded the ghin app but it says I must be part of a club or group or something. What does everyone use?

https://www.txga.org/start/select/

Select a club, create a profile, follow all the steps. Then you pay whatever the amount is for that particular club (I think mine was $28) and they'll send you your GHIN #. Then you can use your GHIN# to create an account on the app

Join TGA$39/year

GHIN is not free, nor is anything to get an official USGA HC

You don't have to pick a club. You can choose the online route and it assigns you to "Medalist" whatever area in Texas you are. You can also set up auto renewal that way too

I think you can do it through the Golfshot app as well

Grint is not considered official, so get an official one and link the two together. Just go to any golf course and register or do the online thing.

Grint has an official option that gets you a GHIN. It's what I use.

Yep Grint is official if you use the correct option. That's what I use.

Do you get a ghin with grint or the world handicap system number. A buddy has the full version of the grint and he is not listed on ghin. I know it is an official hcp.

Seems like you have to have a GHIN#, then you can link it with your Grint account.

Ok, finally found him in ghin. The Grint put him in a Missouri golf association even though he lives in Arkansas.

You get a WHS number from the grint, not a GHIN number. It can be looked up with GHIN, but it's not a GHIN number.

Anyone who had a GHIN number when they went to the WHS, the GHIN number is your WHS number as well. I don't think you can use the GHIN app to post scores if you have a WHS number through the grint.

Another annoying thing about grint is if you link your existing GHIN account to grint, and post scores in both places, it double up. That's why I detached my GHIN from the grint. I only post scores on the grint when I'm posting for one of the TexAgs virtual tour events.

Some like the grint, and that's fine. I don't and I don't use it. I know it has a lot of features that others like, but I just go play golf. I don't keep any stats other than my score.

What is the difference. If I pick a club can I not use my scores from other courses? I would just pick the FW Golf Association that runs all the Fort Worth munis

You post any scores from rounds played at a certified course.

There is actually a course in San Antonio that is not certified. If you play there, you don't report your score. Silverhorn.

You're "home" has nothing to do with it. It's about registered USGA courses. TGA went online 2 years ago and created online clubs for people so they didn't have to be a member at a course. As long as the course you play is recognized by the USGA, you can post your score.
