Going to be in the area next week and I'm trying to decide between Coyote Moon or Incline Village Championship course. Anybody played either of these?

I've played both and like both. If I had to choose between the two I would pick Coyote Moon.

You might check Golf WRX and other sites for conditions. I think I saw where some of the Truckee area courses were hurting from winter freeze.

Don't know anything about either but our long time director of golf at Houston Oaks went to Incline Village this spring. I'd be curious to hear how it is.

I have played Old Greenwood and Gray's Crossing in Truckee, and both are very good. Pace of play was good as well, which I read was sometimes an issue at Coyote Moon.

there are better courses on the north side than those, but if those two are your only options definitely go with Coyote Moon

Go ahead and give me more options. Those were 2 that happened to be remotely close to my hotel that seemed to be favored on a quick google search.

Old Greenwood
Gray's Crossing (eat & drink at PJ's, which is named after Peter Jacobson)
Lahontan
Schaffer's Mill
Martis Camp

in that order...you'll have to get your club pro to get you on Lahonton & Martis Camp, fyi

Just FYI Gray's plays a few shots easier than Old Greenwood, which is a Nicklaus course with typical Nicklaus greens. As I said above, both are very good.

truth; you will card a better score at both Gray's Crossing & Coyote Moon, but Old Greenwood is a better course

but all of that is really academic; you're on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra Nevada's...life is good

enjoy your time there...you'll notice why the haters call Incline Village "income village"...which, of course, is located on the Nevada side versus the Cali side

Yeah... I'm using Hyatt Points to stay there for free essentially (until I saw the $37 per day resort fee and $22 per day for parking)...

I don't have a club pro...

well, I guess the silver lining is that Lahontan has the most difficult greens I've ever putted...they make no sense to me; can't read them; the whole "breaks to the valley or lake / away from the mountain" theory doesn't apply and they're like a sheet of ice...so you won't have to worry 'bout dealing with that

Agree Old Greenwood is better. Just wanted him to know the difference in play.
Probably should start another topic on this, but though I like Nicklaus-designed courses, the green complexes are typically almost silly. Lots of 3-tiered, multi-slopes within tier greens. I think his greens are much worse (and typically unnecessarily so) than Dye, Coore-Crenshaw, Jones, etc. I recall that the pros hated the greens at Dove Mountain, where the match play was before Austin. Played that course and it's beautiful, but the greens were ridiculous.

Getting a twilight round tonight. Leaning towards incline championship course since it's right by the hotel.

fairways & greens...and seriously, fairways; they are tree-lined along the front 9

fyi; the greens break measurably towards the lake, no matter how it appears

enjoy ~

You aren't kidding man. I did enjoy the ego boost the elevation gave me on some of the drives. Course is really neat. Amazing view!
