Think Joe Theismann injury or what Kevin ware did for Louisville in the NCAA tournament 3-4 years ago and that's what I did to my right leg last week. Stupid ice - slipped and fell walking to work. I knew when I saw blood after hearing it snap that I was in bad shape.

A metal rod and four screws in my leg later. Hurts like hell and I am nonweightbearing for two weeks and they said I can't even drive for closer to eight

Getting back to work and to a normal life with a busy household at home is priority number one, but anyone ever had this happen to them and return to play golf? I am/was pretty active but the thought of walking to play 18 holes this year or turning and hitting shots over and over again with a metal rod in the leg is concerning.

I had an accident several years ago of similar severity. I'll be honest, my golf game isn't the same. It's still fun though.

Don't have an experience to offer, but I would think that, as it relates to golf, breaking the right leg (for a RH player) would be better than the left which you're looking to transfer your weight to and finish on.

So you got that going for you, which is nice.

Don't have the experience.. but I would recommend taking as much time to rest and heal as needed, and doing appropriate physical therapy for as long as needed before you attempt anything semi athletic again. Don't rush it.

Sorry to hear that. Haven't had something that serious, but I tore my right acl playing basketball and had to shut down the golf game for a while. As OTM said it's better to deal with an injury to the right leg if you're right handed.

As I healed and did pt, I could only chip and putt for a while, like close to 6 months. Then I progressed over several more months to add mid irons, long irons, and woods in that order. I started playing some 9s when I could hit up to mid irons.

Unsurprisingly, being forced to to only work on short game and short irons really improved my game overall when I could play again.

There's an aspect to relearn how to trust turning loose on a full shot that can take people a while. It can also be tough just getting around the slopes and terrain of a golf course.

I'm sure your recovery will be a bit different, but you'll get used to whatever the new normal is. Take it slow and measured and work on short game at first. A golf cart will be your friend at least for a while.

Good luck!

Sorry, I realized that I basically didn't answer your question. As far as golf goes, I didn't play for about five years. I was physically capable after about two years, but I was frustrated with how my game had basically gone away. My injuries were 12 years ago, and I play frequently now. I just decided that it was more fun to play, and not be as good versus not playing.

As far as the physical toll, I'm a little sore after 18 holes. I exclusively ride. If walked 18 I might not be able to walk to the car afterward. The cart does the trick though.

If could give you one piece of advice, it's not get frustrated with your recovery. You will, but the better your frame of mind is the better for everyone. It gets a little better everyday. Also, as stated above, focus on PT like it is oxygen.

Not a tib fin fracture but an ankle dislocation (think ankle joint turned in 90* aka sole of foot parallel with said bones) Tony Finau and I did the same thing, minus the hole in one and I was playing basketball. I was in a boot for 7 weeks and could harldy put pressure on it and walk straight after about 9. As mentioned PT is your friend. I was in PT 5 days a week for I can't remember how long. Also got rehab treatment of cold laser, cryo, electric stem, needles, cupping and who knows what else. I should of had surgery but with all the effort was able to avoid that for now.

Returning to golf wasn't as bad as I thought I had a swing similar to Tony's after his injury no rotation over the foot. I was able to play but it wasn't the same. 3 years later it's still sore after tons of exercise but it's not terrible.

I do think of using the cart will be key once I do get the greenlight to play. On top of the tib fib fracture was a fractured ankle.

Hoping to start putting and chipping in the early summer and if I played a round by September that would be a win.

Don't listen to this guy, OP. Play as soon as possible. Tiger won the US Open on a broken leg and a torn ACL and probably a bruised johnson. What are you, OP, some kind of wuss?
