Any course recommendations in/around San Diego or La Jolla area. Going January 19-22. Torrey Pines is closed for course prep for a tournament. TIA.

I highly highly recommend Aviara in Carlsbad and Maderas as well.

Steel Canyon is a neat track up in the hills due east of town. It's (3) nines that gives you lots of topography changes. I enjoyed it last trip out.

Balboa Park is a fun track as well. Muni on Coronado is fun as well. Great views of downtown and SD bay.

Another thumbs up for steel canyon but it's a bit inland from LA Jolla.

Dress properly. It may be colder than you think.

Posted these rankings a while back, these are mostly on the higher side cost wise.

Aviara
Torrey
Maderas
Journey at Pechanga
Barona
Crossings

Many more, but those are my fav. Mt Woodson is great for a bit cheaper.

Maderas is great, one of my favorite courses anywhere.

Only played 1 round in the area... it was Maderas, and I wasn'f disappointed at all. Great course.

Edit: if you're staying in La Jolla, Maderas is a pretty easy drive over to Poway. That's exactly what I did.

Like the Crossings in Carlsbad. Awesome course that is very well kept.

Maderas is amazing. I played it a couple of weeks ago and it's one of my favorites that I've ever played. The rough is cut short and typically funnels drives into the fairway if you make a bad tee shot. It isn't an ocean course but the scenery was great. I highly recommend it especially if you are a 90's golfer like me.

Torrey is the single most overrated course I've ever played so IMO you're not missing anything.

any tips on getting on to Torry Pines? I am going over Easter weekend with the girlfriend and have heard its a b---- to get on if youre not a resident. TP is on top of my list, but Maderas looks awesome and has open tee times, so this will most likely be the one I go to.

If you're a single just get there around 5 AM. You'll get out.

I would highly recommend driving up to play Pelican Hill in Newport Beach one day if you can avoid rush hour traffic. It's amazing. Ocean views on just about every hole and not cookie cutter "resort golf". Not cheap though, but twilight makes it easier on the wallet.

Can stop and grab a meal and a beer in Laguna Beach.
