I think Meadowbrook Farms at 41 is bull***** It used to be good, but it's gone downhill since they built houses around it. I played there in late March and the greens were in bad shape.

Good on the Campus Course for making it into the top 50 public.


Sidenote... I can't wait to play Black Jack's Crossing in a few weeks.

I'm dying to play Black Jack. Have a good friend of mine who plays it every year. Swears its the best course in Texas!

Need to make some friends with some of the members of these other courses. Played a lot of these in HS.

Not sure what to make of the public list. Meadowbrook Farms, Houston National and the Campus Course I'm familiar with and wouldn't consider any of them anything but ordinary. Woodforest, Augusta Pines, High Meadow Ranch and Eagle Pointe are really nice. If you're in the Houston area and haven't gone to Mont Belvieu you should do it.

Bluejack is an interesting one too. Some members at our club played with some members out there last month before our new course opened and said about half the greens are unplayable.

This list is always a fun one that leaves you scratching your head in places.

From my contacts in the industry, once you get out of the top 15 or so, it's a bit of a publicity contest where you can gain a lot of spots if you want to "kiss up" to the reviewer panel. Many clubs bend over backwards and roll out the red carpet. My club stopped jumping through hoops about 5 years ago and we've since dropped ~25 slots.

When I see that Deerwood is ranked lower than Meadowbrook Farms, I don't place much credibility with that list.

Blackjack is on there just for the scenery and there's nothing else like it in the state. Greens are always slow but I suspect they can't get too aggressive with the cutting in that environment. It was in great shape this time last year. Not easy to get to but worth the trip if you can make it.

That's suprising because didn't they do a fairly major renovation not that long ago? Like within the last decade or so?

No idea. My depth of experience with the club is a couple of wedding receptions and a couple of dinners with an ex-girlfriend. I live nearby and was having lunch with a member recently. She mentioned that starting this fall they were going to stop maintaining the course and then shut it down for 18 months or so.

7,11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 22, 24 (home course), 26, 32, 34, 37, 41, 42, 45, 46, 49.

Did anybody notice that Kingwood Cove made the top 50 public courses? And Houston National? Why? Because they have cool names?

Memorial Park and Meadowbrook Farms are the 2 others that just don't compute...

I thought Fazio Foothills was currently being repaired. Is that true? Played Lakeside a few months ago and enjoyed it.
