Looking to work out some kinks in my golf swing. I know golf is wrought with gimmicky swing trainers, aids, etc.. I'm going to the driving range quite a bit, and I'm eventually going to do a couple private lessons, but I came across this Zepp swing analyzer and was wondering if anyone has used it and has any opinions on effectiveness- is it worth it? If not, does anyone know other swing aids I could try?

I'm literally going to the PGA Superstore to pick one up today. I've read reviews all weekend on these and it seems like the Zepp is the best balance of data and ease of use.

I found this review to be helpful.

I'll report back soon.

That is a good article...looks like the SkyPro was the way to go though. Any reason you're getting the Zepp over the skypro?

I don't want to swap the device for every club and i actually thought I'd get more out of something if it was a bit less complicated (I realize that would come at the cost of less data).

I also read a separate review that said the Skypro wasn't as actionable and that you might have to look at some YouTube videos to figure it out.

...but as I read more maybe SkyPro is a better option. Both seem pretty solid.

I've had it for about a year. Use it about once a month on the range to tune my swing. It's very good for me at identifying the subtle over-the-top movement that tends to creep into my swing.

CCMD, are you supposed to look at the readout after every swing, or do you go and run several swings at once and see what the average tendency is, then address that? I ended up buying this last night but haven't had a chance to try yet, thinking I'll take it to the range today.

I just prop my iphone up next to my spot on the range and look at it after every shot. Helps slow down my tendency to "machine-gun" shots on the range.

How does it work for instructions on fixing problem areas? Do you just watch videos or something when you don't meet the swing speed or tempo, etc.?

I will warn you that I think the engineering of the program is better for a two-plane style upright swing, than a one-plane flatter swing. I was actually looking to become more upright because my shot dispersion was too wide. It has definitely helped me with that.

The videos do help some. But most of this you will figure out on your own.

I ended up picking up the Skypro at Golfsmith - it was ~$160.

I hit 100 balls at the range and found it to be easy to use. After calibration I put the iPhone on the bag stand and the app gives an audible swing tone when a hit is registered. Really interesting to see the alerts for each swing. I also like the groove mode that lets you focus on one metric and it gives you an audible positive/negative tone with each swing to let you know if you are within preset tolerances. Nice to not have to look at the phone after each swing. I also used it for some putting but is less useful as my stroke is pretty straight and within parameters (as opposed to my irons - ugh).

I'll provide more after I use it a few more times. So far nice.

Overall the Zepp thing isn't too bad. I haven't taken advantage of the tips that they send/have available on the app the way that I should, though. It is good for me to see what swings have what results, compared to how the Zepp reads them. When I hit a good shot, it's almost always registered as a good shot on the Zepp, and I can continue trying to replicate that swing pattern/feel. I have certainly hit some bad shots that registered as the "ideal" swing, but the shot was bad for reasons not related to what the Zepp is reading (standing up, topping the ball, etc.) and I have hit good shots that registered as a bad swing, because they don't follow the conventional swing that Zepp wants you to.
