How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know there are probably 50 other posts concerning this same topic but I am too lazy to search through all of them.

I am looking for July/August golf destination suggestions for 5-6 guys with the following criteria:
* multiple golf courses within 10-15 minutes of each other, resorts are fine
* middle of the road green fees/room rates
* gotta have a good watering hole and one decent restaraunt nearby
* 2-3 hour flight from Houston/Austin

We have been to:
* Scottsdale (Arizona is not out of the question at all since prices are great in August)
* Alabama (RTJ, stayed at Ross Bridge)
* Michigan

TIA for any suggestions.

Lajitas was discussed but the lack of multiple golf courses got it crossed off the the list.

Used to do an annual trip, which alternated between Orlando and Myrtle Beach. We'd do 4-5 days and always booked through Golfpac Travel. Would recommend them. They have a ton of options in their packages allowing you to choose where specifically you'll stay (resort, condo, etc.) and which courses you play -- all based on what price range you want.

If the group is all about golf, would do Myrtle. If you boys want to go out some and have more dining and drinking options, I'd go with Orlando. Course recs for Orlando would include Grand Cypress and Celebration.

Reno at that time of year. Biloxi, but it'll be hot (as will myrtle).

Never been but this past summer I saw that they played the Big Break invitational at the Reynolds Plantation in Georgia. I believe there are 6 courses there. It looked amazing on TV and I have seen good reviews.

Tahoe. There's a couple of courses in Truckee I wanna play, Old Greenwood and Gray's Crossing. You've also got Edgewood, Incline Village, Squaw Valley, Genoa Lakes. Plus you've got gambling at night.

Looking at 4-5 rounds. We'll stay 3 nights, usually get there early enough to play on day 1 and then play 36 per day after that.

Tampa isn't that great of an option.

Not really one of the prime golf destinations like many other places in Florida and there aren't any beaches in Tampa (have to travel to Clearwater, St. Pete, or head an hour south).

Cool place to live though if you have a boat.

Pinehurst would be great, but probably falls a little outside your distance range. Just under 3 hour flight, but another 1-1.5 hours after you land.
Obviously, golf is great in that area and late summer is usually a bargain there. Very little to do after golf.

Stay away from Myrtle Beach - vacation getaway for all the "Guidos" from Jersey/Philly.

Hilton Head/Buford is fantastic as well, but the really good courses are pretty private. You could get on, but might be hard to get all your buddies on as well.

St. Georges, UT/Mesquite, NV might be another option.

Palm Springs is full of bargains during that time - you just have to deal with 110, a dry heat. Indian Casinos, but little else to do at night.

Me and some buddies are doing one to Denver in the mountains this summer in late July. Renting out a house, playing 5 rounds from Thursday-Saturday on various courses. Im not even sure which courses, one of my buddies is setting it up.

Are yall going to Denver or the mountains? Several people on here can throw out some ideas in either of those areas.

Would definitely recommend Denver although its not resort-y. Good eating and entertainment options after golf though. At least 3-4 options within 45 minutes of downtown, a couple being in the same general area so 36/day would be doable.

I have a buddy that just bought a place in Ruisodo, NM.

He's taking some buddies out there in May for a golf weekend, but I can't make it.

He says there is plenty of golf in the area.

Eh, I love ruidoso, but it's not an ideal place for what the OP is requesting.

I think Tahoe is a great option.

Ruidoso is a fairly cheap option i love, actually. But id wait til the links gets in better shape. Inn of the mtn Gods is great, rainmaker, links, and a couple rreally fun shorter courses. There is a course in alto that seems too fun until the back- then every shot involves trees.

We have some pretty decent courses here in the Destin area. It too, will be deathly hot in July/Aug and jam-packed with tourist hackers.

In my opinion, Oklahoma has some of the best golf you'll find. OKC and Tulsa both have some great options. Between AW Tillinghast and Perry Maxwell, there are some beauties up there. Another option is Hot Springs Village.

OP, if you'd like I can hook you up with some supers up there.

This.... went many years ago and played Pa Ko Ridge and U NM course great courses...

And if you don't mind a drive the Farmington course I heard is one of the cheaper best public course about 2 and half hours away

Also if you fly into El Paso with a layover for an extended time Painted Dunes is great

Turf,

If you've been to Scottsdale in August, then you know there are some great rates. I'd suggest you look at Tucson, and specifically at The Villas of Oro Valley. Tucson is cooler than the Phoenix area.

Buddies and I went every year for 10 years. The trip fell apart a few years ago, but I believe they're still in business.

Great condos, everybody had their own room/bathroom, get up and play at 7 (you're two hours behind cdt and will be up anyways), great courses nearby (I really liked VISTOSO, but there are many to choose from), spend the afternoon drinking margaritas at the pool. We typically took advantage of the nearby grocery and the grills out by the pool. Played dominoes in the evening.

Replays in the afternoon used to be free.

Not trying to leach off this thread, but I tried looking at Myrtle and the number of courses are overwhelming.

Any standout suggestions or must plays? I know the Big Break ones are there, but was wondering if there are any gems that shouldn't be overlooked.
