Your purest long iron shot?

Where and when did y'all hit your most flush, piercing, pro-feeling long iron? Talking 4 iron and up, maybe 5 max.

Nothing much comes to mind for me :/

Although there was this one time years ago where I pulled a 5i on a par 3, when I thought I was reaching for an 8*. My dad and brother both teed off before me hitting 8's. I step up to my ball, and with how I had been playing prior to that hole, I was only thinking 'tempo' the whole time. Then it's like my body automatically adjusted to the loft...I made a smooth ~1/2 swing, knocked it to 10 feet (unfortunately above the hole...right to left slider).

They realized I hadn't made a full swing, I take a look at my club and and perplexed at how I had grabbed a 5 iron instead of a freaking 8*. Funny sport.

*The beers may have had something to do with this.

i'm not sure I can remember my purest but I can surely recount the most memorable. playing #8 at Pebble I hooked the crap out of my tee shot left of 8 cart path and close to 6 down the hill. I was sitting about 225 with an uphill approach, over the edge of the ocean and back down to the green and it a 3-iron to 6 feet and made the putt for birdie. ended up with a 39 on the front with doubles on 1 and 3. par on 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9. back nine I doubled 10 and 14 and a birdie on 15. only bogey I made all day was 16. 4 doubles, 1 bogey, 11 pars and 2 birdies.

I don't remember a specific shot but in my opinion there is nothing better in golf than perfectly nutting a 3 or 4 iron off the deck. The earth stops rotating for a few seconds.

Last year when we were playing colovista for the first time I had about a 200-210 yard shot left for the par 5 on the front nine with water to the right side along the fairway, I don't remember what the exact hole number is.

I'm not really a far hitter usually but I wanted to take advantage of a really good tee shot. So I stepped up with either my 5 or 6 because I couldn't hit anything higher that day to save my life, just turned and unloaded on it. To my surprise, it ended up being a great shot, perfect arc, almost straight with just a little bit of a fade on it. Hit and rolled about 15 feet past the hole

I grew up on a 7100 yard par 70. I can hit long irons all day long.

I just recently took the 2 iron out of the bag and replaced it with a hybrid. But, if I had to play for my life tomorrow, the 2 iron would go right back in the bag.

The most memorable shot recently with a long iron was in Vegas at Boulder Creek. It was on a par 5 and I had to chip out of the desert on my second shot because my drive, well, ended up in the desert. I was 238 to the middle with a pin back four or five yards. I hit a 2iron to 4 feet and made the putt for birdie. I loved that club. It was a Pingeye2 2 iron.

On Tierra verde in Arlington on number 11. It's a long par 3. I think I was over 200 yards and I hit a nice draw with my 4 iron and stuck it about 3 feet away.

Played Miramont a little over a year ago in a scramble and had about 200-210~ to the flag on a par 5. Hit a good 3i and twirled the club.

I knew it was good, playing partners all exclaimed, Why you mad, that could be good. They thought the club twirl was me pulling down my backswing prematurely. I responded, "I know its good" as the ball hits and sits about 5-7 feet from the hole. We missed the eagle, due to the slope on that putt.

I don't typically hit long irons all that well. That club is now a 3 hybrid, which Im now debating to make into a 2 hybrid.

4 iron approach shot on the 2nd hole on Sherrill #1 course - dogleg left over water. We were playing the tips and I'd set myself up for trouble with a ****ty tee shot that had me well back and on the left edge of the fairway. There is also a huge tree overhanging the left side of the fairway just in front of the water, and the pin was on the left side of the green.

The smart play in this situation is to just lay up in front of the water, leave yourself 100 yard approach, and hope to salvage par or at least limit damage to bogey.

The Danny play was to take his 4 iron and hit the highest, biggest sweeping hook possible around the tree and over the lake. Completely pured it and it hooked perfectly. Nearly brought a tear to my eye. Landed about 8 feet behind the pin, and I drained the putt for a 3.

This, too bad it doesn't happen for me more than 30% of the time

4 iron into a par 4 at meadowbrook that I made long because of a sky highway tee shot. My boss was talking crap about how bad my tee shot was and I absolutely killed my 4 iron and dropped it with 4 feet of the hole.

Number one at Abilene Country Club. I snap hook the drive into the the left rough by a small tree. I had to stay under the one tree and go around a bigger one further up and still clear two huge bunkers to hit the green about 220 away. I hit a perfect punch-fade 2 iron avoiding both trees, clearing the bunkers, and sticking 2 feet from the pin. Still probably my best single shot ever.

I hit one of the purest 4i ever yesterday. 215 yd par 3 and none of my playing partners made it to the green. There was wind in my face and I probably should have hit a hybrid, but knew it was better to be short. Smoked the 4i with a little draw and left it pin high for a birdie putt. Made my only birdie of the day.

4 iron approach shot on the 2nd hole on Sherrill #1 course

Started to read this and was thinking he must of topped it off the tee and then thought it must of been an awesome shot having to hit a 4 iron approach from anywhere on that hole with all the trees.

I love hitting a working stinger through the trees with a 3 or 4 when you have little windows to hit. Allows the creativity to come out and it's a nice show for the guys in your group who can't grasp the concept of it being possible.

I just thought of another one recently. Was 160 out on Grapevine Muni Pecan #9 behind a tree. My only shot was a punch type shot to keep it below the limbs. Hit a pure punch three iron that landed on the front of the green and rolled out about 15 feet. Two putt par. The tree limbs were so low I barely missed them even with the 3. But I pulled the shot off.

I have two I can think of. My first was a money game with a buddy. We were on 18 at wolf dancer in bastrop which is a par 5. He hit his driver into the bunker so I pulled my three iron out which at the time was a cobra muscle back pro. I nutted it right on the screws about 230 with a little 5 yard draw. I miss the feeling of flushing those muscle backs.

My second was on 13 at Hackberry creek. I flushed a 4 iron about 210 three feet from the hole and lipped out the birdie.

Hole 6 @ pinehurst no 2. 45 degrees- slight wind in my face, back tees, 220 to front right nasty pin placement.

Hit 4 iron to 15 feet just left and behind the pin. Made par. Was the only one of our group not to putt it off the front.

thats one of those shots that stays with ya.

Don't ask me why I remember this, but I do. Wasn't a long approach that I stuck close, hell, it wasn't even into a green. A&M campus course in the mid-late 90's, 8th hole, it was almost dark and my roommate and I were trying to finish the front. I absolutely powdered a 2-iron off the tee that we couldn't see land because it was so dark. I saw it start just left of the dogleg and I knew it was just a little cut along the trees. We started walking down the fairway and split off to find our balls. I just walked right along the treeline expecting to come up to it at some point, but didn't. We then started looking right thinking it hit something funny and kicked into the trees. Nope. Finally, in the interest of time, I dropped one and wedged it onto the green. As we walked up, there was my original ball, about 15 yards short of the front edge, right in the middle of the fairway. I don't remember how long the hole was back then (want to say 340-ish), but that has to be the "purest" long iron I've ever hit.

Aggiebrother...I think I know yours, but I'll wait for you to chime in.

Playing a course under construction and ended up on about a 210 yd par 4. Took out the 5 iron and absolutely caught one right in the sweet spot. Knocked it to about 10 ft. It had the height, trajectory, and feel that I can usually only dream about.

Best shot of my life- number 8 at Pebble Beach. Hit 3 wood down the right side to about 10 yds short of the cliff. Hit 4 iron about 190 yds to 15 ft and made the birdie putt. A lot of credit to the caddie for coaching me through that hole.

Went to New Mexico this past weekend for a bachelor party, we played Inn of the Mountain Gods Friday morning. Par 3 #12, 200 yards, hit the most crisp, perfect feeling 5 iron of my life. I couldn't even feel the ball off the club face, took off on a perfect line at the flagstick with just the slightest draw. It was a thing of beauty in the air. I then watched it sail about 15 yards over the green... I didn't even care, the shot felt so good.

I've had my eye on some Mizuno mp-53's for a little while now. My cart partner had just recently bought the mp-53's so he let me play them Friday to try them out. I am 100% sold after that round. I probably would have already bought them if I hadn't lost enough at the casino to buy multiple sets...
