I just changed up my grip on the range to see how it would feel and was quite surprised on how it felt. I have been using the interlocking grip since I was a kid and tried the 10-fingered "baseball" grip for all wedge / mid iron shots. It felt easier to rotate my wrist through the ball and extend my right elbow during the follow through. I was able to land 9/10 shots on the green with my 8 iron... Felt more natural. I know this grip is more for seniors, but am fairly sure a few pros use this grip.

Does any body else use this grip and if not, have you tried it?

I use a 10-finger grip within 35-40 or so yards of the green. Key word: finger. I don't get heavy and tense with it in my palms.

Depending on the situation, I sometimes use my regular overlap grip within 35-50 yards though.

I'm a 10 finger gripper and have been for all but 2 of the 20 years I've been playing. I didn't pick up the game until college after a lifetime of baseball, so it was simply what felt most natural. I did switch to overlap for a year or two about 10 years ago, but I eventually went into a major slump and switched back. My handicap has fluctuated between 2 and 6 for 15+ years (usually moves with my playing frequency), so I don't think the 10 finger hurt me too bad.

10 finger grip player here as well...tried interlock for maybe 6 months as a teenager (baseball player) and hated it, didn't feel good and felt like I lost distance. I have a very strong grip as well, like dustin johnson, which can bring on some serious hooks...

I was in the PGA superstore when I visted DFW a month ago. One of the gentlemen working the monitor areas stopped me because he spotted me using a grip he uses at times.

I always played with a interlocking grip until around June of last year. I play right-handed and I now overlap the last 2 fingers(pinky and ring finger) of my right hand and not just my pinky.

It feels weird going back to interlocking. Not sure if it is ingraining something negative into my swing. However, despite recent rounds, I did play 2 of my best rounds with this grip.

Interlocking. I gave overlap a shot for a while last year, but it felt horrible. Didn't feel like i had any control over the club.

Never tried 10-finger... Hmm...

I practice quite often with a ten finger "split" grip. Especially if I'm battling weak push shots(it's my most common miss). Splitting the grip allows me to really feel my forearm's roll over.

Stick and bagger: (sounds like a good band name actually)

That sounds like exactly what I need. My biggest fault is not letting my right arm come through and over my left...I chicken wing it. A lot.

Y'all think that drill would help? Any old iron or wood for it?

Give it a try. Take your driver out in the backyard and exaggerate with a 5-6" split and you should feel it right away.

Might explain why hockey players tend to be pretty good golfers after they retire.
