Just a great OLD layout. It has been several years since I played it, but I am sure it is in great condition. I actually like the Queens course better. Doglegs, flat and fairly open.
Let us know. Would love to join you. I'm 1 1/2 hours away. 1.2 HC.
I worked as a tennis pro at Gleneagles for a little over a year, and played both of those courses at least once a week. Man, I love that place!
The way I always described it was that Kings has water going across the course, Queens has water going along the side of the holes. I always liked Queens better, but Kings is a great layout too.
Wow pretty rave reviews. I know it is the only British Open qualifier in the US so it had to be a decent place. I have played the fazio course at Stonebriar as it is right around the corner from my house but never been down there. Sorry Flash I was invited by a member so I have no say as to who plays else I would.
I basically learned to play golf on those courses. Hadn't played much before, but found a member to teach me some things, and I would play 18-36 almost every weekend. I could get on at 4 each sunday in the summer and play almost 36 holes before dark, since it was so hot no members played.
I used to know those two courses like the back of my hand. Would love to get back up there sometime and play again now that I am a better player
So we played the Kings course Sunday and I have to say I was less than impressed for a premier Dallas country club. The course was just ok for me...The greens were terrible, patchy bumpy and just ugly. The layout of the Kings course is idiotic imo, you cannot hit driver on any of the Par 5's because there is water or small landing areas that only get to maybe 250 before trouble. Same with a lot of the par 4's. The par 3's were ok but nothing to write home about. Navigating the cart paths between holes is a nightmare as well. We played the first nine of the queens and I can say I liked the layout a lot more because you could actually hit driver on the holes you are supposed to but the greens again were terrible. Bumpy and hairy. Less than impressed with the courses but the area is great and very scenic with all of the undulations. Stonebriar next weekend...
Yeah well with the drought in Texas I dont blame them for not being able to water enough this summer so I am sure it is not always the case. Never played the Dye course at stonebriar but I actually kind of liked the Stondbridge version.
Stonebriar is a Ken Dye design - no relation to Pete and a better course than either of the Gleneagles courses - both tricked up Von Hagge/Devlin Designs. The Kings course has the worst collection of par 5s in existence.
