What's the main differences between the R7 XD and the R7 Steel in the Taylormade fairway woods/metals? (I still call them woods)

I've had the R7 Superquad driver for a few years, and I really like it. I need to get a different 3 wood, so I figured I would try the R7 since I like it so much. When searching for one online I noticed there is the XD version and the Steel version. I can't seem to find any kind of review that compares the two.

Through my search, I decided to make the switch from the 2I hybrid to the 5 wood because I feel like I'll get more consistent results, being a relatively high handicapper (shoot mid to high 90's). I just ordered the R7 XD 5 wood from the Taylormade pre-owned clubs section. I don't remember seeing the 5 wood available in the "Steel" model, only the XD. However, the 3 wood was available in both. Both have stiff graphite shafts, which is what I have on my driver.

I'd like to order the 3 wood, but curious as to which version may be better suited to me.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

I would consider the Taylormade Burner 3 Wood. NOT the superfast or superfast 2.0, but the original Burner 3-Wood.

It is far away the most popular 3 wood on tour to this day. Huge sweet spot, larger than normal head, easy to hit. Many guys on tour use this as their "safe play".

Funny you should mention that. I actually purchased last year's version of the burner 3w at Golf Galaxy on clearance Saturday. I was trying out 2I hybrids, and the sales guy suggested a 5 wood, and also let me hit the burner 3w. I liked the feel of it, and it was likely pretty fogiving because I was hitting everything solid and I had flip flops on. After I left the store, I started thinking about how well I hit my R7 driver, so reasoned that I would hit the 3 wood just as well. Since I really needed a 5 wood instead, I returned the burner 3w the next morning and purchased the R7 5w online. Still waiting to receive it, and now thinking about a 3w. Maybe I over-thought everything. I'll have to get the r7 and compare to the burner again.

Still curious as to the difference in the r7 3w XD and r7 3w Steel. I'm assuming the Steel is designed for a lower handicap player than the XD.

To which year model of the burner are you referring?

Burner 2007 is the popular one, I believe.

I've read quite a few reviews and get the impression that the 2008 model may be the better one. Looks like it came out in 2007, but I saw in several places where it said the 2007 model's MOI is 30% larger than the previous R7 steel fairway woods.

Then, the 2008 Burner has a 6% higher MOI and 35% lower Center of Gravity than the 2007 version, all making it easier to launch.

So I guess the 2008 version is the better one to have when looking at the "plain" Burner (not superfast, etc)
