...my brother-in-law gave us a ceiling fan and light unit that he used to have in his living room but hasn't given me the instruction booklet.

I'm running into an issue where when I'm done wiring it (I think) correctly, only the fan part works, and not the lights (yes, jerks, I checked the lightbulbs).

This particular unit has a "night-light" feature with a third string to pull, so I'm not sure if it needs a different wiring setup, but it has three wires coming from it and two grounding wires, so I'm a bit confused.

Anyone wanna help me out?

That's possible, but like I said, there are three total switches, and only one is working.

The likelihood of both of them breaking en route to our apartment.

What's DIY? It's a Home Depot brand (Hampton Bay), but I can't seem to get the question answered in there FAQ.

I got it...thanks, I needed to re-wire the light part of it...seems that our apartment complex had only three working wires (ground included) and my fan had five; I had the wrong ones doubled-up.


EDIT: Mrs. Agaholic bought 75-watt bulbs, so our guest room is freaking bright now. I'm used to posting on here at night in the dark, so this is going to take some getting used to.
