In yet another thread, an Aggie brings up the fact that A&M was ahead at halftime of last year's UT game to justify hope for the immediate future.

It makes me dizzy. I was at the game, went outside to smoke with some other old longtime season ticket holders as usual to discuss the first half. None of us were worried in the least. UT had run plain vanilla both on offense and defense and were controlling the flow of the game completely. The freak play at the end of the half resulted in a 14-point turnaround, and yet none of us considered the possibility of losing the game.

As I had taped it, I have watched it several times for enjoyment. How any Aggies can watch it and feel encouraged is beyond me.

Well, I rarely ever go there, but even if there was this discussion by a couple of nimrods, I seriously doubt this would be the consensus opinion. The aggies that actually think Texas will beat A&M this year are few and far between here on Texags. I think that's the main difference... we know when a team is better than us, and if PG or any other sooner gets on here and trashes us, we pretty much take it. Aggies, on the other hand, continue to trash a team that has beaten them 5 times in a row.

FS91 - Because the refs ruled it that way. The rule was cited and explained during the game.

CMack - I don't post near as often as you do, and I'm 63 with an old wife. Do you suggest I chase young girls or what? You can find dumb young Horns saying anything on Hornfans. It embarrasses me to read it. Over here, I can read fantasies by young Ags. That doesn't embarrass me.

It wasn't two points. It was a one point safety, as stated in the rule book. Just because the aggies are the only team in over a century dumb enough to pick up a blocked kick and run it backwards doesn't mean the rule doesn't exist.

I'd say most Ags are being optimistic because we have a real reason to be. You tend to be pretty down the middle there Dub so you should be able to admit that it is a distinct possibility this year. Moreso than any year since '99.

What I find interesting is that you guys have by far the best chance to take down OU this year than you have had since '99. To be honest, I think you guys take them down this year. This will be a relatively down year for them. Before anybody starts in on me, notice the word relative. They're still going to be good but I think you guys pull it out.

I said before I think that you guys go down at Kyle this year. We've got the talent, I just think that they have to live up to it and do what they have the potential to do. It should be a damn good game. It is unlikely but if the Big XII was being decided at Kyle on T+1 that would be awesome. It should be that way every year IMHO. I'm tired of the Okies.



P.S. Does anybody know what the longest win streak in our series is? Has anybody won more than 5 in a row?

FS91 - The way it was explained, if a member of the opposing team picks up the ball in the end zone after a failed extra point and is tackled in that end zone, it results in a one-point safety. I had never heard of it, but it exists.

CMack - Your math is correct. It seems that you've been posting a lot for the last couple of months. Were you a long time lurker who stepped it up?

Yes and no. My job runs in cycles--sometimes I'm really busy, sometimes I have nothing to do. All of that ties in to how much I post. Recently it's been slow.

Plus I gave up message boards for Lent, and got married right around the same time.

CMack - You're supposed to give up broccoli for Lent - not TexAgs.

Lucius - The Aggies are getting better, and you always have a chance. This year, your chances are better because it's at home. Your program and the experience of much of your talent is such that we should still be favored by a substantial margin, barring catastrophic injuries. My point was only that last year's T+1 game was not much cause for encouragement. The halftime score was a fluke. I too hope for the time when the T+1 game decides the championship and that the Okies sink back into the ooze and slime where they belong. As far as our chances against OU, we do look to have a better chance this year, but I would put it at no better than 40%. Stoops has definitely had our coaching staff's number, and AD is one stud running back. They are still very tough, especially when you're their number one target.

UT won 10 in a row versus A&M starting in 1957, lost in 1967, then won 7 in a row. We were 17-1 from 1957 through 1974. That's why old Aggies love Darrell so much.

As far as national rankings and BCS bids go, it's better to lose early than late. It's hurt us against OU, who targets us and then fades, but it helps us against A&M.

Yes. Stoops targets the second Saturday in October as Switzer says he did.
