Greatest pitcher, maybe. But greatest player????

The Babe has a .671 winning percentage as a pitcher, with like 15 shutouts.

If Cy Young hasd led the league in homers at least one year, your argument would carry more weight.

Cy Young won 511 games in his career. 511!!!!! That is the most unbreakable record in all of sports. No other pitcher has even come close. To win 500 games, one has to win 20 games for 25 straight years. That is absolutely ASTOUDING!!! All of Babe's records have been broken, most by wide margins. Aaron shattered his home run record. His home runs in a season record has been broken by 4 different players. No one will ever approach Cy Youngs record.

But The Babe pitched, AND batted/played the field.

Picture The Rocket hitting 35 HR and on his off days, playing first and hitting .336. That would be the equivalent.

I'll throw Mickey Mantle's name out there. Hall of Fame career that could have been 10 x greater if not for booze and bad knees.

Also, keep in mind Cy Young pitched during a time in which there was no five man or four man rotation. He pitched many times a week. So, naturally, he'd have more opportunities for wins. Not knocking his accomplishments at all, and his record will likely never be broken. But its kinda like comparing apples to oranges when you compare his stats to todays pitchers stats.

Ruth made his living, his legend as a hitter. When you think of Ruth, you dont say "hey, he was one of the greatest pitchers of his time". You say "Hey, he was arguably the greatest hitter ever".

Babe hitting 100 homers in a season and 1000 in his career would be equivalent to Cy's 37 wins in a season and 511 career wins.

Ty Cobb is up there, but I'll agree with the Babe. Had he taken the game seriously it would even be close. Plus Ruth had fewer at bats than anyone who hit more home runs than him. Goes into that apples oranges arguement again though.

Treasures blows the Mens Club out of the water, IMO. But drinking for free w/ a baseball player while looking at large breasts is a pretty damn good night.

Barry Bonds never pitched a shutout or a complete game.

Oh, and by the way, he could not throw out a one-legged Sid Bream when he was rounding third.

You would have to evaluate this by era. Babe couldn't do the things he did in this era, but that doesn't take anything away from his accomplishments. Just different time periods, plus, there were no black ball players then.

Babe Ruth....I don't think it is all that close between him and Barroid.

It depends on the night as to which is better for me.

Bonds is the only player in the history of the game to have 500 HR's and 500 SB's.

Had Barry done half of what we've watched him do over the last 15 years, 50 years ago, the legend that would linger around baseball lore, would be 2X what it is of Babe.

Ted Williams should get a mention too.

I am not ignoring the argument. Bonds is near the top. I just think that a great hitter who also was a good pitcher is something the game has never seen since the days of The Babe.
