Save your money. Terrible acting, half the scenes are borrowed from other alien movies, I want to smack that arrogant Dakota Fanning in the mouth by the end of the movie, asinine dialog and tons of cheesy one-liners.

Only plus was some decent special effects.

All in all it sucked.

Best alien movie I've seen.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Batman Begins, however, is freakin awesome.

I agree about the kid; there are times during the movie where you want Cruise to pop her and her punk brother in the face.

Overall I thought it was pretty good.

Pros: Good storyline (I especially liked that the movie was a snapshot of a normal joe). AWESOME special effects. Did a good job of making the plot/characters believable in a completely unreaslistic situation.

Cons: Dialog SUCKED, and Cruise wasn't that great. You want the aliens to gut and devour both Cruise's kids. Ending was sort of soft. And it was really annoying that they used a narrator to give an epilogue and yet didn't explain anything about the nature of the aliens/their invasion.

They've remade The Bad News Bears, too.

Don't know why. Can you imagine a remake
of Animal House or Caddyshack?

It was a good movie. I hated the kids too but they did not kill the movie. The entire movie was a remake so getting upset that scenes were borrowed is silly.

I agree about the girl. Her scream was terribly annoying...I kept hoping she would be killed

I liked the movie, but I agree that both of the kids were horribly annoying at times. Spielberg made another visually stunning movie in terms of camera work and special effects - he is a master of the medium.

And whoever said Batman Begins was awesome was 100% correct. Definitely ten times better than the last three, and possibly better than the first. I didn't think Christian Bale would make a good Dark Knight, but he proved me wrong.

Didn't think it was that great. I think I'd rather have seen Independence Day again.

Hollywood has officially run out of new plots, nothing but poorly done remakes and book adaptations from here on.

The old War of the Worlds with the horrible special effects was much better than this one.

Ok, far be it for me to throw this card out there...........

But wouldn't this fit best in the Gyneral Board or maybe even the Nerdery.

disclaimer: DONT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE

After the EMP goes off in the beginning, all the electrical stuff goes out: cell phones, lights, watches, cars, everything. Yet, after the tripod bursts out of the ground and everyone is running away, there's a guy filming it with his electronic camcorder! Did anyone else see this as a glaring error.

I also thought Dakota Fannings incessant screaming was incredibly annoying. I wanted to punch her in the face.

With all that said, I still came away from it really liking the movie, so it says alot about it that I could hate those two things that much but still really like the movie.

A-/B+ because of those drawbacks.

rcb,

I think the camera could be explained a number of ways but yes I agree it was weird. Also As far as I know EMP weapons would only damage objects that were currently being used (having current flowing when the EMP went off). So parked cars, especially old cars with little or close to no electronics would be safe.

madman, if the EMP theory you're saying acutally worked, then other people would have been able to drive cars.
What pissed me off is that in the entire movie Tom Cruise is the only dumb sonofa***** that figures out how to get a car working again. Dakota Fanning's screaming drove me crazy, add in the video camera and the incredibly long scene with Tim Robins and it was a B-/C+ movie for me.
I think they could have made the 747 scene a bigger part of the movie, because that was bad ass.

I just got back from seeing it......I thought it was great.

I agree with the others.......both the son and daughter should have died slowly and painfully.

Also, I was rooting for the Martians to suck Tim Robbins up in their ship and then shat him out in a steaming growler over New Jersey or somesuch...

I liked it a lot - A.

Tim Robbins scene lasted way too long though.

The special effects were terrific and the film moved along nicely, the horrible acting aside (including Tim Robbins). The ending (reused from the original) ruined the whole movie for me, as it did in the original. One minute the aliens are kicking ass and the next minute they all catch cold and die. How lame is that. How hard would it have been to have given this movie a decent ending, ala Independence Day. I had such high hopes for WOW and once again, Hollywood kicked me in the nuts. Caveat emptor!

Choppy, did not flow smoothly. The lines were predictable, Cruise was useless...

I give it 1-2 on a 5 point scale just for the special effects.

I had high hopes for the movie but came out yesterday mostly disappointed.

I liked the depiction of the invasion (the lightning that the news-gal showed in slow footage to be the invaders boarding the tripods). I liked the EMP stuff and the tripod walkers.

I didn't like the characters that much, really didn't care if they got stomped or chomped or whatever. And did the designer for the aliens have to make them look pretty much like the things from Independence Day, but with a mouth?

And why didn't they ever actually mention Mars?

Also didn't like that the movie didn't pull back enough to depict the actual war between worlds, save for that one sequence with the F-18s that came over and a few tanks.

Big fan of the 1950s classic and enjoyed this one as well. Glad it had the same ending. Tired of Hollywood rewriting remakes.
