If Bercheman returns to his former hitting level; he looks like a natural at first base; who knows if Bagwell will return. The hitting of the young outfielders needs to get more consistent. The pitching has been fairly adequate lately.

Astros fans have already relinquished a playoff spot and are now hoping for the moral victory or second place in the division.

I think they were about the same number of games out of the wild card last year. Catching Atlanta won't be a problem, it is passing the other six teams that are between them. So seven teams have to play worse ball than the Astros for the next three months. But, if you check MLB.com that is exactly what happened over the last ten games.

As an aside, if we didn't have Russ Springer, we probably only be one game back.

dag - Lidge had a strained muscle in his pitching arm. He's day-to-day.

Cubs are getting some pitchers back, but they may get hurt again. They also fade due to all the day games. Stros are finding their team, and it should be a close question which finishes ahead of the other. Neither will likely make the playoffs. The wildcard will come out of the East this time.

What was then two is only now one.

We went to the game yesterday (The Fourth of July), and as usual when we go, the 'Stros won. They should send a limo for us and give us seats.

The 'Stros have found their team. The weakest link is Lane - he's been at about .235 for a long time, and that don't cut it for a major league outfielder with no better than average power. Our 4th and 5th starters are about as good as anybodys', and our bench is adequate. The 3 best starters are far better than most, and Lidge and Wheeler are excellent out of the pen.

No hope of catching the Cards, and I don't believe we can catch two of Atlanta, Florida, and Washington for the wild card, but we might make it interesting.

Astros are close to be the hottest team in baseball. What a turn around.

As of today, Houston is now tied for second place with the Cubbies, 12 1/2 games back of the them Cards.

The Cubbies are the least of the Astros worries. Eventually Lee is going to cool off and their starting pitching is spotty at best, not to mention the bully. The biggest threats are all in the East with Washington(leading), Atlanta and Florida.

I'm like Dub--been to six Astros games this season and they've won them all--including last night. The Astros left that silver boot in the Rangers' ass and will end the season with a better record than Arlington, yet again.

A better question is will they finish at .500?
