There are boards where guys trade referrals like stock. Trouble is...Ipods suck.

You'll be better off accumulating 2 Ipods through referrals and then dumping them fire-sale (unopened, half price) on Ebay, then using that money to buy a Zen Xtra. More hard drive, 4 x the battery life, replaceable battery, and you don't have to join the Jobs cult to get one.

5 hour battery power in v1 has been updated to, uh, probably 8 hours. And when the battery craps out, which they do pretty quickly, you get to pay $99 for a new one. Or go third party, pay less to refurbish the battery, and void your warranty! Sweet!

Meanwhile, my Zen came out of the box with a replaceable 14 hour battery. Plus, more space for less money.

NAS got an opinion on the rio carbon?

If I were going to actually buy an mp3 player to play my mp3's (anti webb material) I would pick b/w the zen micro and the carbon I think.

They weren't out there when I bought. Both of them, from what I've read, are good.

The Rio stuff is always good, and I almost went for one,k but capacity is an issue. I don't need to carry 100 CDs with me; I need the Library of Congress.

The Zen Micro is Napster To Go-compatible, which would be cool, since that would make me street-legal. Unfortunately, my Zen Xtra isn't. And the Zen Micro has widget memory, like 5 gigs.

I've been running smack against the Zen R&D folks on the Creative boards, hoping they'll crumble and update the firmware on my Zen. So far, I haven't been banned, nor have they ponied up with the DRM patch. But I'm hoping I can get the update by Fall, as well as earn Legend status on their boards!

Any of the credit cards are free. The credit check is free. If you click on any of the offers there usually a good explanation of the terms. The offers do rotate a little here and there. For example I signed up with rhapsody (99 cents), but one of my buddies didn't have that as one of his options.

gotcha. i sent in an email to cancel the fax one. i have a popup blocker so didnt see that whenever i clicked on the offer. i think im gonna try the kmart one tomorrow after im sure that they cancelled me off this one.
