So keeping in line with Choke City form, the Astros are in the middle of one of the biggest dropoffs in MLB history. Sure, some teams have gone from the top to the bottom in 2 seasons, but most of those teams have gutted their team to cut payroll (ie the Marlins), whereas the Stros have basically the same team as last year and are choking like a small mouthed wh0re.....

we lost our rbi leader, a player that set the record for most homeruns in the playoffs, and our only allstar position player is coming back from acl surgery. yep, exact same team.

What you have lost is your run support accross the board, with basically the same team. Do you think with Beltran the record would be significantly different?

considering how many 1 and 2 run games we have lost, yes it would be different. i think with beltran were about 5 or 6 games ahead of where we are now. with kent and beltran i think were at least .500 if not better. our pitching, for the most part, has been great. we have a future hall of famer and 2 pitchers that when healthy(and with run support) can be 20 game winners. i was simply pointing out that we are not anywhere close to the same team. good pitching with no run support is not a winning team.

The Astros lost Beltran, Kent, and Berkman (for the first 6 weeks). Not to mention Bagwell. Would they be better with those 3 with them since the start of the season? Um, yes.

Take the top 3 rbi leaders off any team, insert some rookies or unproven players, see how that works out.

Astros have no one to blame but themselves (their management and ownership really), but to say its the same team is moronic.

I really don't think the Astros should be allowed to talk any smack as it is. The main reason they were any good offensively last year was Beltran. They got better when he showed up in Houston and worse when he left...Kent probably needed a change of scenery to make his numbers look better although he's cooled off a little...Don't tell me you people actually expected Bagwell to be an offensive leader on the team. I take that back, now that I think about your roster I can see why you'd expect that.

I will give you credit for Berkman's injury. That was an unfortunate incident to a good player and it has affected your team.

I'm just tired of hearing the Astro fans going back to last year. They did well last year but it's over. In reality they're in last place of a weak Central Division. The Rangers (and I'm not a Ranger fan) are competing for first in a tougher AL West division. Astro fans, unless you have something intelligent to post, don't post at all.

Sure they can, with their pitching staff and IF they add a bat they can be right in the mix. They have probably ONE of the best 1,2,3 starters in MLB and one of the best closers. We will soon know what the Astros are about once they hit the road against good teams after the All-Star break.
