That's what you did as a kid? That's what other kids are doing?
Here's what my field throws out there to justify all manner of reprehensible, and even criminal, juvenile behavior-their brains aren't fully developed yet.
Stop the excuses. Stop justifying. Stop minimizing because they're "kids."
Children know morals, values, and right behavior.
Unless, of course, our society, our culture, and parents, with no values themselves, are no longer teaching their children, in which case we must find some explanation, because we can't look at ourselves and admit our culpability or worse admit our child is a terrible person, then you can throw out all the developmental studies and proclaim "Kids do stupid things. Their brains aren't developed."
So, when a "juvenile" attempts to rob someone at gun point in the middle of the day and ends up dead himself, it only follows that the parent would find self-defense criminal because that's her son and he's a good kid who just "made a mistake."
