It will be amazing or infuriating. No inbetween. Hmm, actually maybe both.
$20 million to get rid of Herman. That guy must have really ticked off the money guys.
I think it's a sign that Texas is ready to play 'ball'. Sark knows the recruiting game. Heh.Artimus Gordon said:
Sark? Is that what they are reduced to? An offensive coordinator with a drinking problem? The media sips have got their work cut out for them putting a shine on that pig!
Maybe. Not my money.AtlAg05 said:AlexNguyen said:

Isn't it $24M?

I think of Fickell and Matt Campbell as the same youngish Midwestern guy. Not sure either can match Lincoln Riley as an aggressive and smart young coach.AggieOO said:
I'd go after Fickell if I were them, but they will probably spend their time trying to get meyer or Kelly, get turned down, and someone else hired Fickell.

After initially saying Tom Herman would remain coach of the Texas football program, the Longhorns on Saturday pulled an about face and fired Herman after four seasons with the team. Texas will hire Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian in Herman's place, a source close to the process tells CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd.
The decision to move on from Herman was made after evaluating the program's strengths and weaknesses, according to a statement released by Texas. Herman is owed a $15 million buyout with his assistants tallying an additional $10 million in buyouts for a total expenditure of nearly $25 million just to remove the football staff.
"With our football season coming to a close, our vice president and athletics director, Chris Del Conte, has evaluated the UT program's strengths and weaknesses and where the program is relative to our goals. While we have made measured progress during the past several years under Tom Herman's leadership, Chris has recommended to the university president, Jay Hartzell, that UT make a coaching change to get us on track to achieving our ambitious goals," Texas' statement read. "President Hartzell and the chair of our Board of Regents, Kevin Eltife, concur with this recommendation and have approved the change. We thank Coach Herman for his service and dedication to our student-athletes, our program and our university."

I'll take the recovering alcoholic. At least he has years watching and hopefully learning from Pete Carroll and Nick Saban.
Like Herman and Strong did. OK.AggieOO said:
Sark will self destruct.
The other alternative candidates floated were enraging. James Franklin. Matt Campbell. Sarkisian in my opinion has a high ceiling. At least we're swinging for the fences. High risk, high reward play.fc2112 said:Quote:
That's a lot of words to say "we threw a Hail Mary pass for Meyer and fell short, so now we're going with Plan B".

One more thing I like about this hire is it is obvious the admin just wants to win. This is not a PC hire at all.

David Pollack just reported that Sark didn't accept the job. LOL. The 24 hour news cycle silliness is in sports too.Gramercy Riffs said:AlexNguyen said:fc2112 said:Quote:
I don't disagree with your overall point, but hiring Sarkisian is not in any way "swinging for the fences." There are only a few guys out there that would qualify for that label. The horns reportedly missed on one a few weeks ago. (For reference, three years ago the Ags connected.)

By the way, swinging for the fences just means making a bold bet. I think Sark would have fallen under that category. He has red flags in his background, but there are also indicators that he could be tremendously successful under the right conditions.Gramercy Riffs said:AlexNguyen said:fc2112 said:Quote:

When you hired Jimbo Fisher, you just simply accomplished what Texas did not with Saban and Meyer. Good for you. The stars lined up for you.
I agree. Of course, it's about to be legal through the legal fiction of selling their image. It could be an immediate attempt to flip the Brockermeyers soon and or Jalen Milroe.AlexNguyen said:I think it's a sign that Texas is ready to play 'ball'. Sark knows the recruiting game. Too many. It's just like when I was an undergrad again. I hope we got Sark. I want to get dirty.angus55 said:AlexNguyen said:Gramercy Riffs said:AlexNguyen said:fc2112 said:
How many swing and misses in last 10 years for tu? I need some doc cry/laughs inserted.

I'm there. I think we need to play by the exact same 'rules' everyone else does. I used to subscribe to one of those Inside sites and no one could ever answer my question which is if everyone is 'cheating' then why don't we turn them in and make a big stink about it? Well either the rules aren't really being broken or Texas is unable to work against the tide of sentiment going the other way. So forget it. Play to win. We're the butt of all the jokes anyway - might as well use all that money and win games.LonghornDub said:I agree. Of course, it's about to be legal through the legal fiction of selling their image. If we are, we suck at it. Time to hire some experts.angus55 said:
Sark would be off the wagon by February and in rehab by April if he took the tu job. And I have some nice ocean front property in AZ if you really believe y'all aren't playing the dirty game recruiting. Lol
