Will y'all do Silver Taps for 41 next month?

Silver taps is reserved for students...you're thinking of Muster.

I'm proud of where I come from, and I'm proud of the school I went to...when I'm outside The State of Texas I hate having to explain "what" (not where) Austin is, and what it represents during conversations about academics or football.

This. I believe the Bushes will be honored at Muster. Silver Taps is for current students.

No, but 41 did request that we play the Aggie War Hymn during the reception ceremony upon the arrival of his remains in College Station, so there's that.

I heard it on TV.

Always has to be one a-hole on every thread. He asked a legitimate question that was answered with an honest answer.

And I thank you for the considerate honest answers. As the son of an Aggie, I grew up with Aggie traditions but have forgotten some of the details. 41 and Barbara were two of the most beloved members of St. Martin's where my wife and I are members, and I was considering driving up to your campus to hear it if you did. I heard it once when I was a teenager 60 years ago, and it was beautiful.

The College Station Muster will read the names of all the students that have died in the last year, those that are of the 50th anniversary class, and all former students in Brazos County that have passed. They will also include employees of the university system (I think they are referred to as "associate members," but don't quote me on that), and other names the University sees fit.

I would be shocked if George H. W. Bush's name isn't read at Muster this spring.

Dub,

If I were you, I'd make plans on attending muster in College Station next April 21. It's definitely done by Aggies for Aggies, but unless you're at Randolph Duke's level of (in)humanity (and you're definitely not), you'll understand it fully. It's easily the best of all Aggie traditions.

You'll also hear Silver Taps there, which is indeed beautiful.

Educated guess is his name will be called at some, if not all, of the off campus musters. Each individual A&M Club or other organization holding a Muster will make their own decision.
The person that is not willing to fight and die, if need be, for his country has no right to life.

they held back reading Barbara this pst year. I imagined me both will be read this year with family members present.

I believe they may be called at Muster. Barbara died 4 days before and if I remember correctly, the family didn't want her to be called since they were just dealing with it and didn't want to take away from the Muster ceremony. My guess is both George and Barbara will have their names called on April 21, 2019.

Muy,

Confirmed on the Muster site:

https://muster.tamu.edu/

President GHW Bush and Barbara Bush will be honored at the 2019 on-campus Muster, and at all Muster ceremonies worldwide.

Also, Muster next year is on the 22nd, since San Jacinto Day falls on a Sunday.

Muster is the 22nd because the 21st is Easter Sunday. Muster has been and is held on Sundays otherwise, if I'm not mistaken.

Barbara Bush was the best First Lady the Nation has had in modern times, at the very least. I always respected the hell out of her.

Dub, you can come to Muster if you want, next April 21. It's an Aggie deal of course, but it's open to anybody.

And, I would strongly suspect that 41's name will be read both at the Campus Muster and also at the Houston A&M Club Muster... and possibly others. That's not unusual for an Aggie whose influence and stature extended beyond either the campus, the hometown, or both.

Gunny - No, we joined in May, but we had been attending there for ten plus years on Easter's, Christmases, Mother's Days, Veterans' Days, etc. Dickey Elwood and I were acolytes together at St. Paul's Waco. He is a couple of years older than I am. If I remember right, he was rector in Kingwood before assisting at St. Martin's.

Thanks to all of you for the information. Now I will get information on where and when to go on April 22nd and we will try to attend.

BTW, I don't begrudge any Aggie on this board the normal reaction to Horns posting on here. I've been on here for 20 years and know the drill. All of you have a good day, and thanks for honoring Barbara and 41.

Dub, I respect your question. I don't live in CS anymore, But I would love to come to next year's Muster if I can swing it. And you would totally be welcomed by all Aggies, unless one or two need an "attitude adjustment." Muster and Silver Taps are big deals on our campus where college football stuff is recognized as small stuff compared to life and death matters, and honoring those who've died.

I recommend at least watching the stream from Reed for the 2019 Muster. Attending for a son of Aggies at least once is an affirmation of the Spirit of Aggieland and I welcome you coming though I probably will join my daughter at one near our home (and her apartment) since she graduates tomorrow.
