The talk among the chowds I know up in Boston is -- I hope you're sitting down -- that Torre and Steinbrenner are near divorce. Under their complicated scenario, which is as much wishful thinking as it is Kremlinology, Torre quits the Cranks, and then, just to spite George, goes to the BoSox.

That is just plain wrong. He led the team within a couple innings of the World Series - further than they've been in a long time.

If they're going to fire him because of one questionable decision, then the Cubs should fire Dusty Baker for his team's inexcusable choke job.

As much as I knew he was going to be capped, I wasn't particularly happy about it (save for my conspiracy theory, above).

But a head had to roll.

It wasn't going to be Theo Epstein.

It wasn't going to be Pedro.

Hence, Grady gets capped.

Grady made decisions like this all year long. It was his "bullpen by committee" that cost the sox several games early on this season. The sox should have had 100 wins this season. The talent was there, but so was Grady.

I would love to see Joe wearing a Sox uni next year.

Why not Pedro? If you cap him now it doesn't look as bad when the Yankees sign him.

I'd like to see someone who nobody's really heard of hired. Some minor-league manager only known to the real "baseball guys" on the inside. The window is starting to close on this incarnation of the Sox (Pedro's got to be 46 this year). And we know the cranks will do everything they can to "fix" the "problem" of not winning the World Series.

Stros need to hire someone who hates pitchers and looks upon them as a necessary evil. That way, there's none of this Dierker/Little "well, his ass is getting shelled, but I think he'll respond like a champ and dig out of it" crap.
