Excerpted from an email newsletter I get from Trey McLean of the Texas-Exes. Very disappointing. Just thought I'd share it since I hadn't heard about it until today.
"When Texas played Arkansas the Razorbacks brought a ton of people to town. The University of Arkansas Alumni Association contracted an independent travel company to set up a pre-game event for their special guests, who were nearly all elderly. This event was at the Recreational Sports Center, just south of the stadium, as are all visiting team events that the Texas Exes help organize. After the game these older Arkansas fans basically had to run a gauntlet of beer bottles, cans and anything else that could be THROWN at them by some irate Texas fans. It doesn't end there. The travel agent (she lives in Alabama and is an Auburn fan) was physically assaulted and suffered some minor injuries for holding a sign that read "Arkansas Alumni." What is that? When did we turn into Texas Tech? I want visiting teams to FIGURATIVELY fear for their lives, not literally. That's absurd that someone's grandparents got nailed with a Miller Lite bottle because the Texas defense couldn't tackle. L et's treat the visitors like we want to be treated when we're on the road. I'm all for good-natured smack, but it sure doesn't need to get physical, and certainly not with a 5'4" woman whose only crime is holding a sign.
