This is Round Rock I.S.D.'s new stadium which is almost complete. I went by the other day and the long-turf is nearly installed.

My son who is in 8th grade this year, gets to play a game there in September. It is going to be nice to see replays on the Jumbo-tron.

Smack aside, that was a pretty cool show of HS stadiums.

2 glaring omissions from that thread...Duncanville and Temple.

Deer Park has a nice stadium too. My two favorites are Tyler Rose and Groesbeck.

That Garland renovation is just to the press box to replace the "chicken coop" that used to sway back and forth any time the winds picked up over 15 mph. The inside is still a bunch of old bleachers ... which I guess still makes it similar to Jones.

Wish we had facilities like that. Our renovations consist of restrooms and concessions stands (which both suck). At least we get to play in them in the playoffs.

I didn't know that there were so many being built. The question is will these schools have a good product on the field.

I hate that field in Garland. MY QB got his arm snapped, and our safety went to the hospital with a neck injury. However, it was fun when we beat rowlett there on their homecoming.

Also, why the hell does Round rock need a JumboTron for a high school stadium? That seems like a huge waste of money that could be better spent.

I guess it is chic to have a big screen. When the bond issue passed, it was part of the package pitched. Galena Park spent something like $10,000,000 on their state of the art facilities.

BTW 1999, when I was in school at LaPorte, we beat Sterling in the first round of the playoffs 17-10. Looking back at that game, I consider it one of the biggest upsets of all time since we beat the great Donovan Forbes.

I was pretty young, but I was at the game, as Donovan and my brother were good friends. When I was in High School we were in the same district with LaPorte, Deer Park, and the Beaumont Schools. Our teams sucked but we were still able to beat Pullig and Deer Park each year.

Where the hell do those schools get the money for that crap. Please don't tell me thats tax payer money because if it is thats just a shame that its being spent on football stadiums..

Of course it's taxpayer money. They don't even need a referendum for new stadiums... just take it out of the school district budget and state funds. It's legalized racketeering.

That said, some new stadiums are pretty cool.

None of the money used for the stadium came from the taxpayers. It was built with bonds that were approved five years ago. I forgot to mention that earlier.

If you want to look for blame to spread around for Round Rock's Robin Hood problems, look no further than Dell. They are paying virtually nothing in property taxes. Back when they were building their facilities in Round Rock they were given a huge break.

Now if they really wanted to and were concerned about the school district, they could have renegotiated to contribute SOMETHING back to the community to help offset the deficit.

How are the bonds going to be paid back? I would figure like most other municipal bonds, tax money will be used.

Despite last season's implosion, I still feel that Viking Stadium in Bryan (I am Bryan HS, class of '95) is probably tied with Temple for the best high school stadium in the state, that belongs to a single HS and is not shared by multiple schools.

And it may be just my opinion, but I think that Jumbo-Trons on HS stadiums are ridiculous.
