By the way. None of this not using the Hook Em and stuff like that is Harry High School stuff. It doesn't work, it is mostly for the fans to read and think it means something. Discipline comes from things like developing work ethic, weight rooms, football study, football technique etc. that wins games. You want your kids to be good in the community. But the way you do that is recruit good kids. There has to be rules. But no fire arms, treat women right etc shouldn't have to be put up on the locker room wall. You should make sure you recruit kids who at less can do those things before you bring them in!

Nobody is or was a bigger hardass than Jackie other than The Bear.

When Jackie took over in 1982 and called a team meeting, the first thing he said to the players was "take your ****ing hats off" (while inside). A friend of mine on the team said those hats were gone in the blink of an eye.

That's all Jackie needed to do to send the message. He allowed the team to have privileges from Day One and keep them as long as they earned them....he didn't come in and scorch the earth and lock them in a closet.

I like Charlie Strong's principles but I'm not sure going Gary Barnett on them right out of the gate is gonna end well.

I'm going to miss the awesome video of players reacting when Old Man Mack made them think they were going to have to practice but surprised them by announcing a pool party instead.

Strong is doing this in the best interest of the football team's safety. No hand-signs = harder for bleach bombers to find their targets.

this sometimes works with teams that didn't have discpline before that were also losing and didn't have enough talent to overcome the lack of discipline.

It worked with BCG when he replaced Watson. And it worked for Fran at all his previous stops. But, the reason it failed for BCG at Kentucky and for Fran at A&M is two fold.

At Kentucky the team was full of prima donna super stars who weren't going to put up with that **** (read: the sips). It failed at A&M because RC already was a discipline guy. Anybody remember how mad he got at the public address announcer for announcing Sammy Davis as Sammy "Candy Man" Davis? Also, the Ags didn't want their coach fire and hadn't had a losing season in 15 years. Players don't buy-in to bull**** under those conditions.

The Fran, Strong, BCG type coaching style works at a very specific type of program, with a specific history, and player roster. That **** won't fly with sip players.

Well in his defense, he didn't recruit any of these kids, so he needs to get someone else's crazy b*stards in line with rules. Just sayin, your statement is correct but doesn't exactly apply to a guy who just inherited a bunch of bad eggs.

From what I read today there are 70 guys on scholarship and 20 verbals. Even if they don't get another commit this year he will have to get rid of 5. This is probably just step 1 in that process.

And I have no problem with it. There are a lot of players sucking up a scholarship that will never see the field. WWND? What Would Nick Do?
