I can't speak on the issue of crazy pills, but the "pretending" thing was set off when I was working in Dallas and a partner of the law firm I am with who went to Michigan asked me some questions about **** (I did my undergrad to UT and law school at Northwestern, so I follow Big 12 and Big 10 football). The guy was shocked that with an $8 billion endowment that **** wasn't considered an elite university. He wondered if there was another university that had done less with such wealth. I explained to him that it was because **** is cursed with the **** mentality.
He couldn't believe what I was telling him about **** was true and we ended up making a bet that I could convince him the ****s were as I explained them. He didn't know **** was a branch of UT until 1948, that they have only been an actual university for 50 years, that the whole "12th Man" thing is a fairy tale, etc. He also didn't believe their student body and alumni base were a bunch of small minded idiots who bought into what essentially is a cult mentality. Long story short, I proved my point rather easily (they still make death threats and are stalking some guy in Tomball, Texas. They are obsessed with silencing the infidel who dares speak the truths about their beloved university).
The "Randolph Duke is Dead" thing was part explaining the bet and letting everyone in on what was going on. It was also an oblique reference to Ralph Bellamy who played Randolph Duke in Trading Places. My wife is a a relative of his. He also starred in a movie titled "The Man Who Lived Twice."
what a doofus
