Dude is tied for the major league lead (13) in long balls...

Damn, he sure would look good in an Astros uniform playing for the home town team...

Unless he wanted to be a professional pot smoker.

Hey bag, I told you earlier not to be worried about him, when he gets hot he hits them in bunches.

challenge, make the best squad from current big leaguers from your hometown

C-LaRue
1B-Dunn
2B
SS
3B
OF-Berkman
OF-Burnitz
OF-Cruz Jr

SP-Clemens
SP-Pettite
SP-Wood
SP-Beckett
RP-Williamson
RP
RP

that is the making of one HELL of a pitching staff...

That would be impossible for me since my hometown is a complete void for athletic success. So, I'll do the all-time greatest athletes from my hometown:

Rod Bernstein
Ty Warren
Curtis Dickey
Joe Wilbert
Cameron Spikes
Me
Some girl who was pretty good at kickball in the 3rd grade

Add Gerald Carter to that list. Maybe also Todd Howard.

Dunn is the shizzle. He and Barry Bonds (along with Bobby Abreu, Jim Edmonds and Porn Star Kent) are on my fantasy team . . . in an NL only league. I'm pretty confident about my bats.

P.S. (For aggieclone only) -- I'm also kicking the crap out of everyone else right now. I predict a win. Everyone else in my league sucks. This one dude (who's in 4th place) thinks he's a fantasy god. Yeah, I guess I'll remember that when I'm cashing his check!

seriously though, think about that Houston rotation...

Clemens
Pettite
Beckett
Wood

that is seriously bad ace...
Karl Hungus

Chuck Knoblach(sp?) at second
Jay Buhner (didn't he go to Clear Creek)

...isn't Wood from Dallas.

Wood was born in Irving but went to Spring Highschool...

You could throw Chris George from Klein into that rotation as well.

Wood

Beckett is the one that went to Spring. Wood went to Grand Prarie.

kb nailed it, i stand corrected,

why was I thinking that wood was from Houston?

I guess I will swap out wood for Nolan, I figure he could still be pitching today...

Bag - Scott Strickland, RHP setup man for the Mets with a low 2 point ERA, grew up in Spring and went through Klein schools. He's on the 15-day disabled list right now, but is in his fourth year and doing great.

Dunn is on pace to break the ML record for Ks in a season.....not exactly something to brag about.

CajunAg - Breaking K records has never intimidated fence swingers nor hurt their income, e.g., Mantle and Kingman.

I think you would have to do it from the state, because Berkman is from the San Antonio area. Kris Benson of the Pirates is pretty good too, and he pitched at Elsik.

I agree, but he's approaching Jose Hernandez, Rob Deer, and the dreaded Pete Incaviglia numbers. Hit low .200s, 190ks, 30 Hrs. I just despise hitters that just swing for the fences.

Also there are two pitchers from Cy-Falls that went in the first round last year. I know they might not pan out, but I faced one of them when he was a sophemore, Scott Kazmir, and his stuff was just filthy.

Oh and I believe Sexton also has 13 homers.

Benson is from South Carolina and went to Clemson.

I'd say Woody Williams (Cy-Fair) deserves a spot on the all-Houston team this year.

berkman went to west lake, I believe, I included him because he went to Rice and has been in Houston for going on ten years...

Why did I think Lance was from New Braunfels?

We don't have any pro athletes from our town, only one of the best RBs Eric Dickerson, and the best punter in the league Shane Lechler.

Kip Wells from Sugarland- came up with the pirates

How long do you want to ignore this user?
kip wells and jason jennings (both pitched at baylor) i believe both are from the houston area
W.E. Henley
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm not sure if either guy is still in the league, but two former Rangers pitchers (I know, that disqualifies them immediately) are from the Houston area.

From Houston Aldine - Roger Pavlik

From North Shore - Brian Bohanon

kip wells went to highschool in suigarland, played ball at baylor and came up with the chi sox, not pirates, he now plays for the pirates.

dennis cook could be added to the list, he grew up in dickinson and mnade his rounds throughout the mlb (SF, NYM, Tex, Ana, FL, Philly)

other notables from texas:
carl crawford (houston)
chad fox (houston)
greg maddux (san angelo)
joe nathan (houston)
ryan rupe (houston (A&M)
mike stanton (houston)
ron gant (victoria)
chile pequin

Don't forget these two...

Kelly Wuncsh(sp?)

and..

Casey Fossum

Both are doing pretty good on the MAJOR LEAGUE level right now. Two former Ag hurlers at that.
